Actually no.

In spite of the higher framerates, 1080 SLI gets a lot of stuttering in many games.

Titan XP. Maybe it will perform a bit worse in some games, but you wont have SLI problems such as micro stuttering which can be more annoying that low frame rates. And some games don't even support SLI.

Avoid SLI until the multi-gpu adoption options of DX12 is taken on my mainstream developers.

Just wait for the 1080 TI. It's rumored to have the same power as the Titan XP for the price of slightly more than a regular 1080. Just SLI a couple of those and you'll be good to go.

you're choosing between the insane and the ridiculous, there's tradeoffs both ways:

- titan: only available in founders edition, lower theoretical performance than two 1080s

- 2x 1080: the entire range of SLI issues.

GSync will make the monitor's refresh rate match the FPS count, but it won't make up for the graphics card(s) getting "stuck" and not rendering anything.

So you have a GSYNC monitor and Nvidia cards in SLI?

Because we do. No problems.

It's nothing against Titan, it's that the Titan is 1200 bucks and gets its teeth kicked in by two 980ti or 1070. Two 1080 absolutely obliterate it.

You realize LOTS of progress has been made since those days right?  Unless you have lots of experience with current gen SLI setups, you really shouldn't trash talk SLI.

The extra smoothness of the G-sync should more than make up for any random "micro-stutter" (which probably won't happen anyways), which is usually the CPU's fault for not being able to keep up with the GPU's.  In well optimized popular AAA games you should see nearly 85-90% scaling with 2 cards if you have a proper CPU with a decent OC on it to keep those cards fed with info.

I've had 780 and 970 SLI in the past few years and experienced no micro-stuttering or anything of the sort, the only problems I ever had were in old games that didn't support SLI, and with beta drivers.   These people that talk about SLI problems have most likely never used one in-home on their own setup, and just read someones flawed benchmark tests and assumed they're SLI experts.

Considering the new SLI tech has made so many advancements vs the old setups, I don't see any reason not to get 1080 SLI over a Titan XP.

Yea two on one. That's how it should be. But any other time people say there are so many issues with sli and to go with the more powerful card. Not just this series, every groupd of cards. People speak from experience they don't have.

It's 2 on 1 because of the price of the Titan X. 2 1070 are 800 bucks, that's 400 bucks cheaper than a Titan X for more performance. That's why.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
