Show Off Your Old Tech!

ionbasa

Well I wanted to see what sort of archaic and collectible tech people have been gathering or have held on to. Post a picture of what you have and a short description of what it is.

I'll start with:

post-419-0-02853600-1383278112_thumb.jpg

post-419-0-35448000-1383278119_thumb.jpg

post-419-0-24479100-1383278165_thumb.jpg

The first item is a 5 1/4 inch floppy diskette "Minifloppy" manufactured be 3M, is single sided, coated with 2 µm magnetic iron oxide, and is a high density, thus providing up to 1.2Mb of data storage!

The following three images are of an early "Mechanical Sample" from an Intel Pentium "P54C" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P5_(microarchitecture) This chip was released before an actual engineering sample was even made. The retail chip featured 3.2 Million transistors, operated at 3.3 Volts, and had a whopping 120 Mhz clock speed (I kid you not).

Pentium 4 (2-3)

My brain...

To love is to risk not being loved in return. To hope is to risk pain. To try is to risk failure, but risk must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.

I've never understood how people do math on normal lined paper...

Same here, I only use graph paper for working out math, it helps me keep everything legible and organized.

The oldest piece of crap which i own is ASUS gtx 650, i have sold every old part. :)

Asus_GTX650E.jpg

Ha, that is still fairly new, I wouldn't consider it "old" tech.

  • 1 year later...

So, I got to wondering, what is the oldest piece of technology that you still use, in a practical sense?

For the sake of discussion, let's leave out old video game consoles.

For me personally, I have a couple.

1. iPod Nano - Second Generation (2007)

-In the world of MP3 players, it's fairly old. Heck, I think the concept of using an MP3 is pretty old (crazy, isn't it?). Still works, no real reason to get rid of it. It's great for travel.

2. Windows XP Desktop (circa 2004)

-It's running an old AMD Duron. It runs fairly smooth. I like to use it as a tinkering machine.
