Asrock KabyLake motherboards (Updated)

NumLock21

Asrock motherboards for Intel Kaby Lake processors that runs on socket 1151, same as current Skylake but with a brand new chipset. The boards still comes with your typical gigabit lan, onboard audio, video outputs, USBs, etc.  And most importantly Aura RGB lighting!  Some models will have more power phases like 12 compare to the rest, support for SLI, CFX, and memory can reach up to DDR4 3866 (oc).

Yay... more tacky RGB lights. I suppose asking for a decent looking board, with a diffused white LED is too much to ask for these days?

I really like how asrock is putting the intel on the I/O shields now, it looks good and doesn't scream gamer, extreme, or something of the sort. I like having the nice looking plastic shields on the MOBO without a lot of junk all over them. It gives off a nice premium look while retaining class and sophistication.

Desktop: X99-PC

CPU: i7 5820k

Mobo: X99 Deluxe

Cooler: Dark Rock Pro 3

RAM: 32GB DDR4
GPU: GTX 1080

Storage: 1TB 850 Evo, 1TB HDD, bunch of external hard drives
PSU: EVGA G2 750w

Peripherals: Logitech G502, Ducky One 711

Audio: Xonar U7, O2 amplifier (RIP), HD6XX

Monitors: 4k 24" Dell monitor, 1080p 24" Asus monitor

Laptop:

-Overkill Dell XPS

Fully maxed out early 2017 Dell XPS 15, GTX 1050 4GB, 7700HQ, 1TB nvme SSD, 32GB RAM, 4k display. 97Whr battery :x
Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

marketing. that's why. supposedly its supposed to help with gpu sag. which is almost understandable with the galax HOF cards or any 3 slot card. but otherwise...marketing.

seriously tho. preach it. I don't want a mobo for all my autoCad work that has "extreme gamer yoloswag 420 mountain dew 360 noscope" all over it.
also the I/o is really nice, maybe a bios switch and a usb 2.0 or 2 on the back but otherwise its perfect imo.

I guess it's nice to see 5Gbit Ethernet in a mainstream board, although I'm not sure how many people it will make a difference for.

Nope. It will all be compatible. Aesthetic and maybe some extra fancy ports

AsRock, the last bastion of acceptable-looking Intel motherboards have fallen.

Time of death 04:45 on the 21st of december.

Good thing I'm going AMD next.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

What's unfortunate about EVGA is they love the obsolete E-ATX standard for space-wasting cases.

TBF Asus might not like you to buy the cheaper ones but the more subdued ones that are not the stupid "MAXIMUS GLORIA PERPETUA MMIX!!" ones look quite nice.

I wouldn't call it obsolete, plenty of my friends use the Classified boards as they help bridge the consumer platform with workstation features (PLX bridge, plethora of PCIE slots, etc). Though, I agree, they need to show the ATX/mATX market more love. The FTW lineup is very stale, with nothing in between that large price window, and the Stinger board just sucks compared to other ITX boards, because of their M.2 implementation (vertical, instead of laying flat on the board, meaning an 2280 SSD would require an 80mm thick case at minimum).

Just aesthetically speaking, EVGA at least keeps it professional. Flat black/gray, with no tacky RGB's. Means you can add any other piece of hardware, and have it match without having poor accent colors.

Why the frack is dsub vga still a thing? DVI replaced it in 1999, and DVI is obsolete now replaced by DisplayPort. It's like putting a floppydrive in a PC today. Makes no sense.
