Laptop for Software Engineering

Hey, i am changing course next year and going into software engineering, and i need to get a new laptop since i wont be spending any time at home.
I have a budget of around $1500 US, which is around $2000 AUD (where i currently live), need it to be fairly portable since its a pain to get to University, and i travel overseas quite frequently.
From people at University the main choice has been between, The New Razer Blade Stealth and a Refurbished MacBook Pro.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

If Lenovo hadn't messed with the tried and true design and feel of the ThinkPad, I would've recommended them in a heartbeat. But now that they've made it more "consumer" like by messing with the keyboard and softening up the design. And I will not forgive them for that.

Razer Blade for sure. Specs of MacBook Pro can not match with a dual core i7 kaby lake. Well the Razer has been reviewed by Linus and he loved it

Business class laptops all the way.  Not only are they typically solid, more highly engineered hardware.  But if something breaks, its not hard to get them fixed.  The last thing you want when you're studying is to have some Razer Blade laptop that might take you a week to get a replacement part for. 

 

I'd be looking at something like the Dell Latitude E7470, for example.

Um. The 15in Macbook runs a far superior CPU. If your task is CPU bound then the Razer Blade will perform worse. Both overheat and throttle. Linus uses it as a office laptop, will never get QC issues. If you actively push it 24/7, the Razer Blade will flame out and die. If you close the lid when the laptop is too hot, the screen will be damaged. Battery can be damaged from the heat. etc etc.

If you dont mind looks, grab a T420 and upgrade it yourself. Otherwise, grab a Dell Outlet/Ebay refurb E7470 or T460 etc. These keyboards are superior to anything on the market.
