2 ips monitors or ips and TN for Gaming?

Imabigmac
Go to solution Solved by Lauen,

The only 1440 I'd really consider are the dell u2713hm or asus pb278q

Does anyone run two different type of monitors side by side?

Yeah, I do

I'm running an IPS and TN side by side.  The color difference is a bit jarring to be honest.

me too. Screens are in signature. I use my main, the IPS monitor (asus) for games and movies, also most used for web browsing and the TN one (BenQ) for.. other things. Usually just some Youtube video while browsing on the main monitor. sometimes movies on the side of the game, sometimes my music player, it depends really. Sometimes I have a movie on my main monitor and some chatting or browsing on the other.

anyway: if you're alright with "slower" IPS panels, I'd just get another IPS panel. I get sort of annoyed some times, when I see difference in colors when moving windows from one to the other.

Hello,

I have been wanting a second monitor for awhile and I cannot decide whether to have dual ips monitors,1 for gaming and another for web browsing or a good 120hz TN for gaming and an ips for web browsing. I currently have a Dell u2412m ips and I will buy a second one if I go with dual ips monitors. So question is whether to have 2 ips monitors or 1 ips and 1 TN monitor?

I play a lot of fps and racing games and I have no problem with my current dell ips for those games, any suggestions on what I should get?

I would just go dual IPS since you already have one.

Tn if you play a lot of FPS games, it's so much better and you WILL see improvements in your games, go IPS or high res if you want a REALLY good picture.

If you are playing competitive CS with twitch reflexes, then buy a TN, otherwise get an IPS 1440p monitor.

Tek Syndicate has multiple reviews on many monitors from eBay. Get something like a Shimian, or X-Star. There are basically a rejected Apple display. A- or A panels.

There are newer models of the Shimians. Also they are PLS and IPS. So not 120hz only if you're lucky.

Does anyone have experience with the Korean 1440 panels? I am more curious about them but l'm still skeptical of quality and power cords etc.

Overclockables have a lot more motion blur than monitors that use strobe backlights.

There's a lot of different strobe backlight technologies now becoming available:

-- LightBoost (the original!)

-- G-SYNC optional low-persistence strobe mode (official)

-- EIZO's Turbo240 strobe mode (official), found in Foris FG2421

-- BENQ's Motion Blur Reduction strobe mode (official), found in BENQ XL2720Z (Z-suffix)

Generally speaking:

60Hz -- baseline

120Hz -- 50% less motion blur than 60Hz

strobng -- 80-95% less motion blur than 60Hz (depends on strobe flash length)

I knew that a tsunami wave of strobe backlights (LightBoost copycats) was going to start, but I didn't expect all of them to be announced within a mere 7 days of each other!

Thank you all for your helpful input! I have decided based on the info that having two different monitors is annoying and having dual ips is the way to go if you don't mind ips screens and 1440p is the future. I will most likely be saving/justifying getting an ips type 1440p monitor.

If you're a casual gamer and not so competitive then just get an IPS for the better colors, but if you really need every advantage get a 120hz/144hz TN.
