First PC Build (i7 6700k, GTX 1060)

I'm going to build my first PC (upgrading from my laptop). I've already planned which components I want to use and would like to have some feedback, whether they will work together and whether anyone has better suggestions for components.

Here is the list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gPGXVY (Updated list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/P7kJpb)

More information about the usage and stuff:

  • OS: Linux/Windows (Linux: development/games/browsing/the usual, Windows: only for games that don't run on linux (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻) - no need to buy an os
  • Budget: ~1400€ (EUR) / ~1500$ (USD)
  • Monitors: 2x QHD Monitor (probably Dell U2515H; I will buy them later(not included in the budget); I appreciate suggestions for equivalent/better monitors as well)
  • Peripherals: I've already got a mouse, a keyboard and a monitor. Should be fine (for now).

why not a 6600k and a 1070?

  • Have you checked the reviews on that cooler?
  • I'd probably step up to a 1070 for the best 1440p experience.
  • That PSU looks pretty expensive, you can get one for around half that. Use extra money towards 1070.
  • Why so much RAM?

Instead of a 1060 why not this: https://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Radeon-PCI-Express-Graphics-11247-03-40G/dp/B0196LWL3W/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1481582031&sr=1-1&keywords=r9+fury

I prefer Nvidia because of the better driver support for Linux. So I'd stick with a 1060 or 1070.

I know someone that used it in some builds and he recommends it, also the reviews are mostly positive.

Can you recommend me a cheaper PSU?

Chrome doesn't use THAT much RAM. Unless you have like 200 tabs open or something.

Sure, I'd go with:

This if you're ok with SEMI modular. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/DPCwrH/seasonic-power-supply-ssr550rm

Updated my list (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/P7kJpb). Added the SeaSonic PSU and a KFA2 1070.

Any other optimization ideas?

I think the 32GB of RAM is a waste, but other than that looks good.

The power supply is a bit overkill. You only need 550watts.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

i5-6600, 16Gigs, ITX Corsair 250D, R9 390, 120Gig M.2 boot, 500Gig SATA SSD, no HDD
