MSI gaming 5 vs gigabyte gaming 7 in overclocking

They are both similarly priced and they both have the features I need. Which one would be better for overclocking my 6700k? Also which one has a better voltage regulator for ocing?

I'd rather get the Gaming 5, I don't think the difference between them is worth the extra cash especially if the gaming 5 has all you need. After all, the limiting factor of your overclock will probably be the CPU chip itself.

If you want a board for overclocking go with an Extreme4 or Extreme6 from Asrock.

Really? I always though that asrock was the "cheaper" type brand. And what is the difference between the extreme 6 and extreme 4? Also do they have good voltage regulators and vrms?

Looking at your signature, You have a Gigabyte Z170 board? Asrock overall has very well VRMs and cooling ect for it, the thing I'd worry about is MSI because a few people have had issues with their quality control. Though the difference in overclocking between boards is at best a +50-75Mhz on a good day. Almost being indentical between the Extreme6 and 4 but they have some other differences in features.

What do you need in a motherboard that your Gigabyte Z170 HD3 doesn't have?

My motherboard has horrible power supply and insane vdroop. Causing me to

enable the highest setting of LLC which is sort of an artificial way of solving the problem and it's not too good for my cpu. I need about 1.38-1.39v for a 4.6 GHz oc without LLC and most 6700k's can oc to 4.6 GHz under 1.35v. I need 1.345v with LLC to have my CPU at 4.6 GHz. Also the mobo is not too stable. It also does not have sli capabilities which I might do in the future. The asrock boards look pretty good but I don't know if they will allow me to oc to 4.6 GHz without LLC.
