Laptop Friendly Monitors?

Cuddlez

Can anyone help me find a "good" relatively inexpensive monitor that I could connect my ultrabook to?

I'm looking for something that:

  • looks good, ergonomic design
  • thin bezels
  • can charge laptop when docked

I'm torn between:

  • what aspect ratio I should use (widescreen, ultra widescreen, etc)
  • the resolution (fhd, qhd, uhd - though I doubt that there is a cheap 4k display out there)

Good: I'm a student. Just something that would suit a sort of productive, ease of use environment

Relatively inexpensive: < $400 AUD

Ultrabook: My laptop is the Acer Aspire S13 - pretty sure HD Graphics 520 can power high rez displays (HDMI 2.0, I have a USB Type-c port [no thunderbolt] but don't know if that will be of any use)

:D Thank you! :)

Well I will say first that you should get a 1080p 60Hz monitor. That laptop can push higher signals, but unless you watch a lot of 4K video (which most people don't), anything more will be useless.

Not sure what you want with a "docked" experience, monitors aren't docks. Docks are. I have yet to see a monitor that itself provides a docking function. That wouldn't make sense, since every laptop that HAS docking uses a different standard, so the monitor in question would only work for 1 laptop. Not a good decision for the company.

As for what monitor to get if you take my recommendations, something 1080p, 60Hz with good reviews and an IPS panel. Go on PCPartPicker, apply those filters to a monitor, and pick one with good ratings. Or ask someone for whom it isn't 3:20 AM.

Main Rig: R9 5950X @ PBO, RTX 3090, 64 GB DDR4 3666, InWin 101, Full Hardline Watercooling

Server: R7 1700X @ 4.0 GHz, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB DDR4 3000, Cooler Master NR200P, Full Soft Watercooling

LAN Rig: R5 3600X @ PBO, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Dan Case A4-SFV V4, 120mm AIO for the CPU

HTPC: i7-7700K @ 4.6 GHz, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 3200, AliExpress K39, IS-47K Cooler

Router: R3 2200G @ stock, 4GB DDR4 2400, what are cases, stock cooler

I don't have a problem...

That's very different than a dock. The only way that would happen is if your laptop charges over USB-C, in which case that is possible.
