Is my graphics card good ?

DanielMellusi

I got the Gigabyte 1070 XTREME gaming for my build I will be doing soon (This is also my first build), and I've done plenty of research and I know that I want a 1070 card, now most of you will say "You should've gone with the Evga ftw or SC, I was leaning towards those two bc of the price difference, but I got my GPU $60 off so it was only $440 USD, Did I get a good graphics card, and any opinions ?

Any Gigabyte GPU is good. Personally nowadays the difference between Temps and clockspeeds are minimal so if the Gigabyte one looks better then you got the right onw

Yeah it's a nice card. I like the cool cross design in the middle too and also has the highest clock speed of all 1070 (higher than a FTW or SC)

Bit of a brand flame war, but anyways ya you can basically pick which ever GFX card looks best to you or which ever brand you like the best (for me ASUS Strix) stock clock speeds and the like are all really irrelevantat this point, only adding an additional 3-5 FPS at 200-300 in most mid level games, and no real performance increase at the higher end level (Arma 3, the Witcher, etc.).

xtreme is a good card and highly overclocked on both the core clock and memory clock. Not much headroom for extra overclocking. If you are planning to overclock memory further, don't pay attention to the "I got +700 on my memory clocks" statements from other 1070 users because their memory is starting about 200mhz below yours to begin with. Think in terms of actual frequencies.

The thing to watch is that because of the high overclock, it needs a high binned GPU to not crash. On some of the cards, the binning process gigabyte uses allows the odd lower binned chip to slip through as binning is not perfect so if you experience many crashes at stock speeds, RMA the card and get a new one.
