Samsung S8 will NOT have a HeadPhone Jack

goodtofufriday

Shocking!

/s

Personally I don't care. I don't use any super expensive headphones on my phone that are 3.5mm and would need a dongle. Also those that do could afford new ones no problem if they hate dongle. And Type-C headphones will start to appear more and more.

It doesn't matter who did it first. The one who 'popularized' it was Apple and its super obvious Samsung is following suit just as they did with the phone design.

The audiophiles you speak of must have never left the house. Yes, external dac/amp, but on USB type C? You're not fooling me.

It goes in through the 3.5mm jack, yes, but I'm sure there are USB solutions as well.

Most use PMPs. Because, as they put it, phones are shit for audio.

I'll be honest, I never looked into BT head/earphones since I've no interest in them. Are they really on pair with $20 wired, let's say KZ ZS3?

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

Ok...

But why not TWO USB-C ports? I charge AND listen to my phone at the same time.

That's not bad at all. How much data?

I pay $480/year for unlimited calls/text and 2GB of data a month.

I use about 300MB a month thanks to BHN having hotspots everywhere. My work phone though is unlimited everything since connecting to the hospital server takes a huge toll on data.

Good thing I've never liked samsung phones to begin with.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Samsung devotes though good luck with that. I just hope Sony and HTC wont follow suite (i doubt they will).

If I recall HTC's next device was rumoured to do this waaayyy before.

This is just speculation at this point. They presented zero source or evidence in the article.

All they said was "we can exclusively confirm". Literally anybody can write that.

Once again Apple's market presence is forcing change in the industry.

It won't be long before every laptop will be pushing the USB-C standard as well.

Now, this I am okay with. They're actually moving forward somewhat by using USB type C, unlike Apple who use a proprietary connector, simply forcing users further into their ecosystem.

What we need now is for them to use 2 USB C ports so we don't need adaptors to charge and listen to music at the same time.

Ehh, agree. Would be nice to see Apple ditch lightning connector for USB-C. The only reason they created Lightning in the first place was because all the other available connectors were terrible, so now we have USB-C it would be good to see them embrace it a bit more.

That said, it's not a big deal since their entire lineup use it, so they have a universal connector for all their devices. Where the Lightning cable trips over itself and falls down the stairs is USB-C to Lightning, since Apple only bundle USB type A with their products.

Apple get a pretty substantial kickback whenever a company creates a device using their lightning connector, so I don't see them adopting USB C in favour over it. It seems strange that they've gone all out on USB C for their laptops, but still use the lightning connector for other devices. Apple has pulled some really stupid moves recently.

USB Type C is going to become the standard, though. It just needs the big companies like Samsung to take the plunge and fully adopt it. There's going to be a transition period of dongles and adaptors, yes, but eventually most things should use USB Type C.

OR you can have both USB type-C and a headphone jack so everyone has the ability to use the phone fully. Want to get USB C headphones? They're available. Still using a 3.5mm jack? Things still work. Jumping straight to a "standard" when you have no products available to use it is idiotic.

It better have 2 usb-c ports or otherwise what's the point of having a phone with just 1 port?

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

If this is true then Samsung has lost its identity trying to copy Apple every way they can.

Audiophiles who own expensive ear/headpieces will not tolerate this one bit.

Don't know why an audiophile would spend money on a quality pair of headphones just to plug them into a phone. While the headphones are important, relying on the DAC/amp in your phone to do a good enough job to make those headphones do what they can do is not the smartest thing to do. Why else do you think external DACs and Amps are so widely used by audiophiles?

If I'm listening to music on my phone, give me the cheapest ear buds that get the job done. I've got better ways to reproduce the music than using my phone and it's built in 3.5mm jack.
