3 monitors vs One

Parky

Hey everyone,

So I am to the point where I am sick of my single 22 Inch display. I am going out tomorrow to buy a new monitor(s) and I have a few questions.

My system is:

i5 6600k

EVGA GTX970 SC

16gb of Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM

Will my pc be able to run most of my games (TF2, BF1, Heros & Genrals, Smite, Forza Horizon 3 etc) with 3 monitors on high settings?

This is the monitor I am looking at for a 3 monitor set up; http://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-24-g246hl-full-hd-tn-monitor.html

And this is the one for a single monitor set up; http://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-31-5-flat-screen-monitor-white.html

Thanks for the input xD

id say go for 3 monitor display as it'll cost roughly the same and i think your gpu would be good considering pewdiepie's old computer specs has a gtx 780 and he got 2 ultrawide monitor

Yes. INI edit.

No. The 970 I have tested and you will not be able to hit a consistent 60hz unless you play medium and no AA.

, Heros & Genrals, Smite,

No idea and yes through INI edits.

Forza Horizon 3

Using Surround, you can get about 40hz without many issues at ultra. Dial it down to about medium with AA or high with no AA.

See above.

Good choice, but I'd get IPS and a thinner bezel.

21:9 is a good compromise between the triple and a normal monitor.

I would go with an ultra wide. Having ran triple 1080 and recently getting a 1440, I regret not going ultra wide.

As far as bf1 goes, I doubt it will be playable. I tired with my gtx 1080.

I did try out a 970 on triple screen on bf hardline. Did ok, a little under a single Titan black which is what I used at the time.  Should done ok on some games, only played on out of the games you mentioned.

You won't be able to run all three monitors at 144 Hz if you use that monitor. It only supports 144 Hz over Dual-Link DVI. (HDMI and DisplayPort only support passive adapters to Single-Link DVI).

So they are limited to 120hz?

All cards do that, it's not a problem with the graphics card (per se).

Dual-Link DVI supports 1080p at 144 Hz, Single-Link DVI only supports 1080p at 60 Hz.

To connect three of those monitors at 144 Hz you need three Dual-Link DVI ports on your graphics card.

HDMI and DisplayPort to DVI adapters will only give you Single-Link DVI (even if they say "Dual-Link" on them)

So the 700 series and the 900 series card with the 7xx series layout don't have a single link port?

What do you mean? Most 700 series cards have two Dual-Link DVI ports, and most 900 series cards have one or two Dual-Link DVI ports. But you would need three Dual-Link DVI ports to run three of these monitors at more than 60 Hz.

Well what I'm trying to figure out is how he couldn't use that monitor at 144 hz?

The monitor only works at 144 Hz if you connect with Dual-Link DVI. If he wants three of them he would need three Dual-Link DVI ports. Modern graphics cards don't have three Dual-Link DVI ports.

Then he could use a dp2dvi powered adapter.  As his should have two dp ports. As the evga ssc has two dvi and one dp layout.

Those are like $100 each. And not very reliable. It doesn't make sense when you could just get monitors with DisplayPort input instead, for less than $100 increase per monitor.

They are expensive, seem realizable to me. 4 years so far. But yea getting monitors that have it would make sense if they are with in his budget and specs.

I mean 60 Hz is fine ahaha

My card has a DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI and a Display port. What would be the best 3 to use? The monitors support HDMI and DVI.
