DisplayPort to DVI passive adapters will only get you Single-Link DVI. A DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI converter will be $50-100.

My graphics card had only one DVI-D connector being a gtx 960 im looking to buy another 144hz monitor and i need another way to get 144hz so would a adapter for hdmi to DVI-D work or a DP to DVI-D. I have been looking a round for a while and cannot find my answer.

HDMI don't go up to 144hz so DVI it is. Dual link too

HDMI 2.0 does. At least at 1080p. I'm not sure about 1440p.

DisplayPort does 144Hz too if your GPU has a DP out...
