who the hell likes membranes?

There was an unpopular opinion thread in General Discussion and iirc quite a few people said they prefer them over mechanic so there is that. On phone so I won't check if it's true. :P

I somewhat reluctantly went with Cherry MX Brown. I do love how those switches feel and sound, and they are something of a Swiss Army Knife in the switch world. Great for typing or gaming, whereas blues are a little better for typing, reds are a pain to type on, and black switches just suck.

That said, I'm a huge fan of Switch Master blue switches. They're just MX clones, but I love how they feel and the tactile feedback. I hate how bloody loud they are.

Honorable mention, and this might actually be my favorite switch if we're being honest, goes to the Futaba clicky switch from ~1986. I picked up a Sejin EAT-1010 board for $2 at a thrift shop, cleaned it up, and now it's arguably my favorite keyboard to type on. Stiff and springy with amazing tactile feedback.

I like MX Browns, but I want to branch into MX clears. Very few boards come with clears though, unless I want to shell out which I would like to avoid lol. Also would really like to try Topre, but we all know how much Topres are...

I have tested both MX Brown and Black on my switch tester and I feel like the brown one feels more membrane like than the black would. I am aware that it might just be my switch tester that got a finecky set of switches but I am not convinced at all that black straight up suck in general. All I can say for myself is, I don't like MX Brown because it feels worse than membrane to me. I'll be trying out Outemu Black switches when I'll get my MKB though and if they are as close of a clone switches as possible to MX switches, I'll be enjoying them quite a lot.

**Disclaimer** I'm currently using an HP membrane keyboard but I should be getting my mechanical keyboard sometime next month.... Thanks to Massdrop....

Browns are a nice middle ground for gaming/typing. I prefer reds for gaming and blues for typing though.

Zealistotle and Blue ALPS are by FAR the best clicky switches that money can buy, however, neither of those options are represented on this survey. I'm disappointed.

Also, if you really wanted to improve this questionnaire, you could change it into secitons:

Clicky

Tactile

Linear

and then let us choose our favorites from each type (also including an "I don't like this type of switch" option. That would give a much better view for what people prefer.(in my opinion)

Sort of off topic question: is mass drop safe/trustworthy to buy from?

I've seen a few things that I've been tempted by but I wasn't sure how trustworthy/reliable massdrop is.

Got a K70 with MX browns, and it's really great when when I'm gaming and typing. Though to be honest, I can't feel that tactile feedback unless I press it really slow. Maybe my expectations are wrong. :P

That's normal with browns. If you want something where you'll always feel the tactile bump, that starts at gateron browns, then goes up to Cherry MX Clears, and then Zealios (in order of the amount of tactility that you'll feel, lowest to highest.)

Yeah. I've bought a few things from them. Besides, LTT makes a point of not accepting sponsorships from companies that are crap. So you're good on that one. Also, Massdrop has quickly become one of the defacto sellers for keyboard stuff, since that community has almost always done all of their stuff based on group buys, as it's about the only way to get large volume manufacturers (like almost all keyboard makers are) to do something custom. Regardless, massdrop is a hell of a lot more trustworthy than Group Buys from places like geekhack, etc. are.

Nice! Yeah, I have 5 or 6 of them laying around in my desk at home. I haven't used one yet though. I might put one in the board that I'm planning on building in the new year though!

Have you ever used one? Locking caps lock is amazing, and using the locking switch for an Fn button is also a great use of them. They're really cool little switches.
