First Build - Liquid Glass

Grigz

I've had a pc built years ago when I was in high school by a family member. After using it for about 6 years now I think it's time for a clean fresh build. This time I'm taking on the task and have planned out the build and have order most of the components. I'll list my build out and discuss why I picked what I did.

Case: NZXT S340 Elite in matte white

CPU: Intel i7 6800k

Motherboard: Gigabyte X99 Designare

Ram: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16gb (4 x 4gb) 3000

Graphics Card: Asus GTX 1070 STRIX

SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 500gb

CPU Cooler: NZXT X61 Kraken

Power Supply: Evga SuperNOVA 850 G2 (Gold certified)

Extras:

NZXT Hue+

EVGA White sleeved cables

Why did I choose to go with a X99 build? I wanted an all around, do anything computer. While I'll mainly be using it for gaming, I would greatly benefit from the extra cores with my job (Web Developer). While I'm sure I could have gotten away with a Z170 i7 6700k, I always tend to go overboard with anything I do and I simply like the versatility the X99 brings with it.

For the motherboard, I've always loved Gigabyte products. I've had both Gigabyte boards in the two computers I've had in the past and tend to trust them over other companies just from past experience. While I certainly didn't have to go with a $400 motherboard, it also was going to fit my build perfectly as far as aesthetics go. And again, myself and overkill go hand in hand.

The Corsair Dominator Platinum ram in my opinion is some of the best looking ram out there, while it was expensive I was okay with spending the added dollar for looks. Did I have to? Of course not.

While I wanted an EVGA FTW card, it seems like they are having heat issues and wasn't wanting to take a risk in having to deal with an avoidable problem. I went with a 1070 mainly because I plan to upgrade to the 1080ti once they are released and wanted a decent card to get my by for the next few months until they are readily available.

The rest of the components were mainly bought from great reviews along with friends having great success with them as well.

I'll be updating this along the way, and welcome any feedback or suggestions.

Its not a bad thing, plus it gives room to add SLI.

You're being rude, the CX series aren't great power supplies, but they shouldn't be thought of as immediate fire hazards.

Because Overkill.

On a serious note it was $100 and peace of mind. I don't want to have to worry about my power supply as well as having enough power to SLI if I choose to go that route in the future.

I don't see the problem...I don't want to feel like I have to switch out components every year to stay relevant. Rather spend $2k now and not touch it for 5 years then budget the build and upgrade every year or two. Different strokes for different folks.

Still have a lot of little things to do on it. Still waiting for the new graphics card (ignore the old age 650ti sitting in there) but I'm pretty excited seeing where it's at now. I'm definitely happy with it so far. More and better pictures to come. (And yes this is with the glass on, crystal clear, hard to see the glass at times!)

At least it's not yet another boring ass fractal build.

I'm still waiting for that particular fad to die in a fire.

I like this build, which is odd because I generally don't like white builds (get too dirty, too easily)

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.
