That IX Formula is absolutely gorgeous! If I was getting a case with a window, that'd be my next board.

Asus does a really nice job with their armor covers.

On a side note, I hate how companies massacre the i/o on lower tier boards. Give me 8 USB ports without needing to go X99, damn it.

And what the fuck with all those display connection options? People that are going to buy these are not getting GPU?

Lets you unplug the GPU to see if that was the problem.

I don't think USB Type C is big enough to warrant multiple ports.

All have 2x m.2 slots. On the rog and tuf with the motherboard shroud. One is located under the cover, below the PCH heatsink. The other is next to where you plug in your power/reset switches and case leds. It's vertical, and it will stick out like a sore thumb, same stupid design as the x99 deluxe.

Hey look, a mainstream-chipset motherboard with all of the rear I/O space filled and jam packed with useful connectors and buttons.

That wasn't so hard, was it @LAwLz?

Z170 A  looks cool and might pick up one if it comes at a similar price to z170A  also waiting for hero alpha (RGBs)

Well I may have just found my Z270 motherboard. The Maximus Hero has plenty of USB ports which is just what I'm after and if the prices are similar to Z170 it should be priced lower than the other boards with lots of USB ports.

I  would  wait for alpha

When we were talking before, we were talking about X99. That does not have video out, so remove that DP and HDMI port. Oh and those buttons are clearly surrounded by a large amount of dead space. Not to mention that the ROG logo above the DP port is about the size of another DP port. This board is not as jam packed as you might think at first.

You kind of missed my point though. My argument was that you should focus on what the board has, not how much room is filled. For example I think having two Ethernet ports and one USB 3.1 port is better than just having three Ethernet ports, but you argued that having three Ethernet ports would be better because it took up more space on the back. I still think that's stupid. You don't measure how good a board is by how much room the IO takes up on the back. You measure it by looking at what ports it has and what they can do.

I am surprised that you still remember that thread, and I still strongly disagree with you.

After looking at the formula very carefully, I say it will trigger some major OCD. That is only, if them EK heatsink waterblock port covers were not twisted on.

Seriously though, does anyone actually use U.2?

We have the 400GB Intel 750 that uses it... and that's it (other than some super expensive ones that are not intended for consumers)? But if you want the Intel 750 then you could just get the PCIe version.

yeah. It's a strange design decision, considering they could have fit an m.2 slot easily

oh well

I guess they assume that if you can afford a maximus impact, you can afford an U.2 drive
