Intel's i7-7700K Kaby Lake Overclocked and Reviewed at Tom's!

It's me!

The guys at Toms got ahold of an i7-7700K and overclocked it, it really had some heat issues, but the clocks seem pretty decent for what might be early silicon, though they aren't sure if its early or not. It seemed to do well enough though in their full suite, but I'm not sure if its enough to run out and buy one~!!

Intel's new Kaby Lake CPU delivers on the clock speeds the company promised, but the power consumption and thermal characteristics were disappointing based on a leaked sample of the new chip we received and tested weeks ahead of its official launch.

The greatest gift a review editor can receive is unexpected hardware, especially when that hardware is an anticipated CPU. What would you do with an early sample of Intel’s next-gen Desktop CPU? Overclock, of course! So would I.

[Editor's Note: Intel declined to comment on our general findings. Although the CPU we received is not marked as an engineering part, we cannot confirm with certainty that it is a retail sample.]

I'm honestly not too impressed. 200MHz upgrade but way more heat and power? Anyone with Skylake shouldn't think about upgrading.

from an i5 to an i7? yeah I would

Damn, should grab the 6700k last Friday when it had 70 euro discount. Damn damn damn....

Up the price with minimum improvement in performance, at the same time runs hotter. Ha, way to go, Intel.

This will be okay for people like me who planned on upgrading their CPU regardless (instead of upgrading to a 6700 I'll opt for the 7700 most likely, or the 7350k depending on benches).

But if you're already on a Skylake i7 or even a Haswell then there's nothing to see here.
