Depends on how keen your eyes are. In a blind taste test you may not be able to notice, but side by side you likely would. The 1070 is just a better option because it will stay relevant for slightly longer than the 1060. 1060 is still a good choice, but I am a strong believer that you should always get the best GPU that your budget allows.

Hello, What would be the best match for an i5 6500 cpu? A gtx 1060 6gb or a gtx 1070? or an amd counterpart? ... the gpus must be mini ITX form factor because i am building in a mini itx case and the maximum lenght of the video card is 210 mm. Thank you in advance.

P.S. maximum budget is around 400 dollars

What do you plan to play? At what resolution. I would say a mini EVGA 1060 6GB

Either of the 1060 or 1070 are a good match.  You won't find any small form factor 1070s though, so probably stick to the 1060.

a 1070 would bottleneck, but you'd still beable to play super smooth 1080p

For 1080p there is not need. Even the hardest game to run are Crysis 3 and The Witcher 3 can get average of 50fps with the 1060

Even the i5 6600k can bottleneck the 1070 so where did you pull that fact from?

You can afford a 1070 at this budget. Depending on the resolution and games the i5 can bottleneck.

yes but does it make sense to grab that card with just an i5 6500? only for 1080p? or the 1060 is enough?

No just go with a 1060. It is the sweetspot for 1080p 60 fps right now.

Then why did you say my post was informative about 30 minutes ago where i said that some people say it can, some people say it cant, it depends on game/settings?

If you can afford the 1070, go for it. Your CPU should only become a bottleneck when you are approaching triple digit FPS. Look at my previous post for a nice miniITX 1070 under $400.

When in doubt, re-format.

Everybody here is always fighting about a 1070 being bottlenecked.

Well, here it is - It will still perform better than a 1060 any day with all else being the same.

So if you have the money just get that 1070.

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."
