wow ummm.. thats a shitty $1000 PC IMO , get a 500GB SSD, a Z170 motherboard and I5 6600K + cooler and that PSU does not belong in there...

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

What on earth is that $500 PC? i3-6100 performs fine, and gives WAY more upgradeability.   There have been bundles that are i3-6100 + H110 for $100, even.

The only downgrade is the video card, but the RX470 is still way better than the 960. I don't understand going AMD for CPU just to get the 480, why throw out all CPU and RAM upgradeability just for a ~15% performance increase?

I understand there are a lot of gamers in LTT audience, but sometimes they forget PCs aren't consoles - gaming isn't the only thing you can do with them... 9_9

If you had watched the video, you would know he said "future upgradeability or anything that doesn't translate into higher FPS today is out" (not a literal quote, but more or less). And his line of thought seems to have been: true quad core +RX 480 is better than dual cores + worse GPU, even if intel dual core.

Also: I want some random user to start a thread with the $500 build, grab popcorn, and watch the hordes rush in screaming "bottleneck" xD

then the PC should me called "Game and more" or something along those lines, rather than just "game on"

I also made that post a minute after this was posted, so obviously i hadn't had chance to watch the video :P

We try to give the people (or at least some of the people) what they want :)

Plus we always try to make sure we leave enough time for people to make purchases in time for the holidays, say, if a kid sees the video and wants to ask for a $500 PC for Christmas or something.

And, technically, this one did come out later than the last 2 holiday buyer's guides (2014 and 2015)! So there's that

EDIT: But no, I wouldn't outright call you a "grumpy old tit" because of that :D

? I put that into my comparison, 470 vs 480 is a tiny tiny increase. Especially if overclocked.

But then why go for 1x8GB RAM? He says it's for upgradeability!

But... The 6100 performs better in quad core, because hyperthreading!  Which means they chose a decrease in performance and upgradeability just for the ~15% GPU raw power increase, which most certainly won't cause a 15% FPS increase.  It just seems very much like an "it costs a lot to be poor" build, when at a whole $500 USD it doesn't have to be. And, if you really did want a 480 for some reason, you could just get a cheaper SSD. After all, not getting a Hyundai SSD doesn't affect your FPS ;)

How about this one for $1000? OC-able CPU, better PSU (modular even!), 2 TB HDD. I don't think gaming alone worth 750 GB SSD like Linus built. I think more capacity is better.
