I learned the hard way...

Jonny.Wong.16

...backup your data...or at least invest in a UPS.

I just wanted to share my story with you. This week there was a power outage in my building. Being unlucky me, it killed two of the hard drives in my sever which were in RAID 5. Not one, but two. The two drives wouldn't spin up anymore and made clicking noises. I lost around 5TB of data. On the bright side, I do have my pictures and music mirrored on an external hard drive, which are the most important files. Now $300 poorer, it's time to rebuild my library.

Your pictures and music are your most important files? Consider yourself lucky that you don't have any sensitive professional documents or files on there, lol.

I can't afford to build a large RAID array or buy a UPS so I just back up my important data to a 250GB external drive I have, works good enough for me because I don't have that much important on my computer anyway.

CPU: AMD 3950x Mobo: MSI B550 RAM: 32GB DDR4 GPU: Asus 3080 Strix PSU: Superflower Leadex 3 720w Case: BeQuiet 500DX

Storage: 2TB SSD + 4TB HDD Audio: SMSL 793ii -> HiFiman HE-400 + Mission MS-50 Speakers

If my drive failed, I'd lose games and music. That's about it really. Plus some programs like Fraps, MSE, Steam, Origin etc...

I have a list on my thumb drive of all the programs I've downloaded, as well as all of my music is on there. I'd just have to re-install my games and programs.

If I had anything super important, I'd definitely back it up.
