not much point in running a benchmark and posting it if you have nobody to compare to. :P

It's a 4K benchmark with all settings maxed bar AA averaging 100 fps and you don't think it's meaningful?

Nope.  When I play games at 4k I use some aa.  And a benchmark is supposed to push a card to the max.  Not to get nice playable frame rates. It's like a standard test to compare things.

Rig Specs:

AMD Threadripper 5990WX@4.8Ghz

Asus Zenith III Extreme

Asrock OC Formula 7970XTX Quadfire

G.Skill Ripheartout X OC 7000Mhz C28 DDR5 4X16GB

You did OC memory kinda much.

Try to decrease memory OC and see if that will let you OC core power more :)

I had R9 390 also ... those cards just don't overclock well.

Just saying, because it's a hawaii core it might have a 'golden ratio' aka When the memory frequency is the clock frequency multiplied by something. All Hawaii chips have this and because Grenada is essentially Hawaii it might work :P My 290 has one of 1.372 and because of it 1180/1619 is stable but 1180/1570 isn't. Also, it's usually between 1.25 and 1.4.

8x AA is meaningless. At any resolution, let alone 4K. Unless you have a 10-bit panel it probably can't even display the slightly more accurate  edge colour from the additional samples.

EDIT : 12V rail reading is 11.75V , under load and when idling .. should i be worried ?

11,6 - 12,4 V is normal range.

I guess that expencive PSUs, will have closer number to 12V. But that's pure guess.

Anyway, your voltage seems just fine. GPU VRM will change that 11,75V to 12V anyway, so nothing to worry about.

think F12 is default screenshot for valley. it saves it under c/:users/yourusername/Valley/screenshots by default I believe.

That is what I used but that doesn't screenshot CPU-Z and GPU-Z then. I just cropped the Print Screen for those and used the F12 for valley.

Happy? Though, I'd still consider 57 fps a "nice playable" framerate.

They're probably overclocked. I haven't bothered. Kind of tempted to watercool and let gpuboost 3.0 do its thing though.

No, I haven't. I did see a good undervolt overclock on reddit and I may try that but I am worried about the strain on my PCIe bus right now. As AMD has said though we will know more on the 5th.

all the reviewers have overclocked there cards and there are no reports of any motherboards being damaged.

Have those reviewers overclocked with crossfire though? From what I have seen on PC'Per there is a decent amount of voltage droop with just a single card and that the power consumption of the PCIe slot and 6pin connector follow each other in their respective power consumption. While I do have a good Mobo and PSU, I do not want to risk shortening the boards lifespan. I can't replace broken components as easily as some of these reviewers might be able to. I do plan on overclocking in the near future and you will see the results when I do, however, performance is great right now with stock clocks. I haven't followed the thermals yet (I know from reviews what where the card targets) but they must be managed well because the noise levels are near silent even with two cards and that may be due to my system configuration (which is why I chose reference coolers).

I may try this.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/4qtuu5/rx_480_undervolt_oc_1340mhz/

Quote

System:

  • CPU: i7 6700K @ 4.6GHz
  • GPU: RX 480
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4 2400
  • SSD: 500GB 850 EVO

Fire Strike Score: 11,730

  • Graphics Score: 13,809

    -Test 1: 65.64 FPS

    -Test 2: 55.32 FPS

Highest Temp: 79C

Just want to point out that the card can be pushed more with higher RPMs, but this will be my daily overclock and I'm not a fan of gaming next to a leaf blower.

Thermals will be much better, but he won't get much more out of them in terms of OC I believe or at least that is what GamersNexus went through.
