By getting the updated CX450 / 550M, you are getting a better quality, more modern unit with a 5 year warranty that offer much better voltage stability at its full range of load. Modularity is a plus. Even if it wasn't modular, I would still recommend them over the older CX600, EVGA 600B, and EVGA 600W1. Seeing how you could get them for the same price point, this is even more so true.

Hello. I'm going to be getting this 1070. I need a power supply upgrade. I'm not too good with power supplies, and I'd probably go with a cx750 or something. I've got £148 (but that's an estimation).

My specs are as follows:

i5 4460

GA-H81M-H

8GB DDR3 1600MHz

1TB HDD 7200RPM

480GB SSD.

Thanks in advance.

P.S - If you think I'm making the wrong purchase with this 1070, just tell me.

if you have 148 to spend you can easily get a tier 1 psu, you wont need 750 watts, 550 should be fine, so something like this would be perfect

http://www.ebuyer.com/718835-evga-supernova-550-g2-power-supply-220-g2-0550-y3?mkwid=sZX8ieioU_dc&pcrid=51482424299&pkw=&pmt=&gclid=CjwKEAiAjcDBBRCJxouz9fWHynwSJADaJg9BoY7xnvR7p5WLUw9JnIcAMiTRkYmzRX5PhIngf6lbcRoCzoTw_wcB

and you'd still have money left over.

I might. I do have 170 to spend, but I'd prefer to have a lot of money left over to buy an SSD. Are there any advantages to a tier 1 PSU? Besides better efficiency and more wattage.

The tiers are based on the quality of the psu and the components inside, nothing to do with the efficiency and wattage output. but it just means its a better quality, less chance to go boom in your pc :P

If you want lots left over for an SSD then a Seasonic M12 520W isn't super expensive and would work fine for you and you'd have tons leftover. An EVGA GQ/B2 would also fit the bill nice and cheap-ish.

Sorry for a late reply, but would this be ok? I know it's way cheaper, but I'd like to spend as little as I can on a PSU without it being bad. https://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-600-Power-Supply-Unit/dp/B01127D0MY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480088072&sr=8-1&keywords=EVGA+600w - It's got a 3 year warranty.

Edit - I found a B1 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-Bronze-Power-Supply-Unit/dp/B01GJD45YS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1480088072&sr=8-5&keywords=EVGA+600w

The Corsair CX550M would be a better option. http://skinflint.co.uk/corsair-cx-series-modular-cx550m-550w-atx-2-4-cp-9020102-eu-cp-9020102-uk-a1404849.html

You could also get the CX450M version as well. It will power your system with an 1070, and you can save some money to put it into something else.

I'm not to bothered for modular power supplies, it's a premium I'm not willing to pay. I'll probably go with a cx600 or an evga 600w. 80+ - I can get next day delivery.

Oh, thanks. I'll get a 550M as NVIDIA recommends a 500W PSU.

I just checked this out: http://outervision.com/b/avhgXP

You sure I shouldn't go for a higher wattage? (I may be doing a bit of OC or upgrading to Skylake or an i7 4xxx|)

Due to design, the 50w extra wattage on the CX600v3 and the two EVGA 600w unit isn't a benefit.

That's a full system power draw from the wall with an i7-6600k OCed to 4.7GHz. DC power draw (what the PSU will be outputting) will be lower due to power supply inefficiency - approximately 260wDC with the overclocked 1070 or 230wDC with it non-OCed with that CX850M.

The CX550M is a good budget unit that is capable of outputting 550w continuously within it warranty period, so you shouldn't need to worry.

Outervision and all other calculators online are complete BS. Don't use them. A 1070 and 4460 will rarely, if ever, breach 250W under load.
