current best video card to pair with fx-6350?

painbringer

what is the current best video card to pair with an amd fx-6350 that won't bottleneck the video card? I've read that previously it was recommended that you pair the fx-6350 with a r9 280/r9 280x/gtx 770 but what crop of current cards should I pair it with?

I wanna buy the rx 470 but i'm afraid the fx-6350 might bottleneck it. i'm thinking maybe the rx 460 and gtx 1050 and gtx 1050 ti?

Yeah, probably wouldn't risk beyond a 1050ti.

I wouldn't actually expect the bottleneck to be too severe, a lot of budget system builders have even been choosing RX480's.

Piff the comments..I'm using a R9 Fury with my 8320 and everything is fine.

I play at 1440P/2160P so the bottleneck isn't that apparent.

It depends on the games, resolution that you're going to play.

You'd be surprised of the difference between a 6350 and a 8350 in term of gaming. One whole additional FPU helps make up for the bad IPC.

I would do RX 470. It's a fine card that you can carry over when you upgrade CPU.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

i don't know man. i've seen videos on youtube showing a fx 6300 severely bottle-necking an rx 480 compared to an intel cpu. i need linus to do a test. DO IT LINUS.

There's still some difference, but not that much...

I'd go with a 1050 Ti and put whatever money you save into a Zen or Skylake CPU when possible.

Bench?

You playing in 1440/2160 also way makes up for the CPU.

It depends on what games you play, some games will use a lot of CPU and not a lot of GPU (ARMA III comes to mind but also TW3, GTA V), while others will use a lot less CPU.

Arma 3 and, arguably, Witcher 3 are badly programmed.

I'm still using the debug to find why Novigrad causes that much damage when the countryside around it is perfectly fine.

I have TW3 installed, but I never got past the first couple hours even though I was getting solid 45-50 in medium settings. Just not an engaging experience, perhaps that will change when I get moar fps.

Weh those are some bad numbers, but I see your point, I still would do RX 470 in this case, especially with their new $170 price.

A RX 480 is around ~180-190 after promos and rebates on some sites, like Jet.

I don't do rebates, they're a nice thing to have but not reliable enough to direct people to them. Sure you get it almost always, but it takes time and time is money

Will vary from game to game. I think an RX 470 would be alright to pair it with. You may want to look at Nvidia options (provided you aren't making use of Freesync or something) since in pretty much all DX11 games Nvidia cards will run better than their similar-tier AMD cards when CPU resources are less plentiful

I have an Fx 6300 over clocked to 4.5ghz paired with an r9 290x. It doesn't bottleneck it (hits 95% cpu usage) at most)  but it's at the threshold.

So if plan on overclocking  I would say r9 290x/rx480/gtx 1060 (they are pretty close in performance) or if not overclocking rx 470
