high quality speakers

Dackzy

I was pretty happy with the vintage Jamo Classic 4 I was using for my other rigs on my other table. But, the Jamo speakers were a tad high/tall, and that bothered me, so when a pair of Bose 201 Series III landed on my lap for cheap, I went for it! Paired it with my a cheap used Virtue One amp (the guy who sold me this amp a while back told me that I had to be careful with it though, I'd have to power it on first BEFORE powering up my DAC, or it might damage the DAC IF I were to do it the other way around). I'm using my Gustard X12 as the DAC of choice for this speaker setup....

amp%20back_zpsxnnjexl7.jpg

Since I'd originally gotten the amp to pair with the pair of Jamo speakers, I'd had to get a pair of speaker cables and a simply DIY job for the banana plugs (bi-wired since the Jamo had bi-wire inputs), I'd removed the bridge thingies - yep, I'm down with all the technical words/terms :P - and plugged in the speaker cables shown below.

speaker%20cables_zpsvmhewzfc.jpg

Now, at the very least, the height of the speakers are almost the same as the monitor's, it really bothered me that the Jamo speakers were too high.....recently became a convert to 21:9 monitors, so lovin' them! The one below is an AOC Q2963PM which I'd gotten first, soon followed by an Acer XR341CK.

BTW, ain't nothing wrong with getting older speakers, as long as they are in good condition. The Jamo and Bose speakers I'd gotten are in very good condition, minor dings on the edge of one of the Jamo, but generally in good physical and great working condition. Plus the fact that I ain't too particular about speakers help I guess....:$

You know what, I had not previously thought about the fact that you could blow up the speakers at higher watts than they are supposed to. Personally I am not stupid enough to do that but I certainly have friends who would. *Goes out to buy new amp*

Also, I can't believe you would stereotype me for my B&O... Jokes... They are great tho... I want these guys too http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Bang-Olufsen-BeoVox-500-bookshelf-speakers-/262703560262?hash=item3d2a5a3646:g:rd8AAOSwMVdYG3zU

well what can I say, those are the people I have seen owning old B&O speakers xD

just the thought about someone going over to a too powerful amp for a speaker is scary, I have seen that happen and it is not nice.

oh man I love talking to you, there is just something about the way you write :D

true there is nothing wrong with buying old speakers, as long as they are working properly and doesn't show any signs of failing soon. Luckily I have the skills to fix everything except the driver in a speaker.

Right now I think that I might go for the B&O first and then later get the bronze 2. If the B&O S55 have better treble than the speakers I have now and equally good bass and mids, then I am going to be happy for a long time.

gotta sell my Argon speakers now, the used price of those bad boys are about the same as I paid for them new :D

Hey, let us know how the B&O Bronze 2 deal works out for ya. Personally like the looks of the Bronze 2, would like to hear your impressions of it. As for the cheap Bose 201 III I'd gotten, it does have decent bass and a fair bit of treble sparkle, which is why I'd placed the speakers with the tweeters firing up. I'm gonna store my Jamo Classic 4 and will prolly use them on an audio/movies rig (C2 QX9650 + HD6770 + 8GB RAM + W64bit Win10 HP), I think I'll most likely use my HFM HM901s + Dock-1 as external DAC, looking forward to setting it up......when I find more space for yet another rig.

Meanwhile, I've my eyes on an LG V20, considered by some as an audiophile phone.....much like the V10 was, but with even beefier specs.

I will let you know how it goes, there is most likely going to go a little while before I have them both, because I need to move room, so I can get space for them and I need to sell my argon speakers.

I am thinking about making a old desktop into a HTPC or a old laptop.

ah yes the V20, I love that phone, the only thing I would have loved if they kept on the back, would be the volume buttons. I have been thinking about getting the G5 with a B&O module, because it seems to get cheap fast, maybe because nobody really buys it, so they just want to sell units.

Heard that the ATH-R70x is pretty neutral sounding, but yet quite euphonic. Was thinking about it when a seller put up his R70X at a great price, too good to pass up so I snagged it. Yeah, been kinda bored so I guess I'll try out some more cans.....funny, just realized that I can never get tired of trying out some new cans. But with speakers, I'm pretty happy with the Rokit5 G3 and Bose 201 Series III, don't feel an urge to try out other speakers. Wish I could say the same about cans though.....

yeah I am kinda the same way, I am pretty much happy with the sound quality of my speakers, but I just sometimes miss a bit of treble, my next speakers are most likely going to last me 10-15 years.

I can never stop wanting to try new headphones and see their take on music

God damn this thread makes me want to buy so many different speakers xD

You guys just mention a speaker and then I look them up and they look so nice :D

We should have a pinned post or just a thread where we post model names of good old speakers, receivers, amps, headphones and such. Just think about it, every time somebody finds a good classic speaker that is just great then they post in there with a bit of info about them.

Yeah, I dont have any vintage audio, other than these two vintage hand build speakers by some random guy. And a single Altec 15" coaxial horn/woofer thing.

I have two vintage headphones. A pair of Pioneer SE205 and a pair of Expert D-208D, they expert ones are super weird, 8 ohm and then a layer of plastic over the driver.

Oh, it costs me about 35USD, not as cheap as in the US, but pretty darn cheap in my neck of the woods.......I don't think there's much difference between a Series II and a Series III. Actually, they look even better now since I removed the speaker covers.....

Hahaha, yeah that sounds great. I already have the speakers for it and I have an old pair of custom made headphone where only one earcup works in. I can't forget my dads old 1991 (possibly earlier) Sony Deck that can play vinyl, tape, has a 5 disc CD player and has many other great features that even decently priced ones today do not beat. Was about £500 back when they bought it which was a lot.

My Rig:

Xeon E5 1680 V2 @ 4.5GHz - Asus Rampage IV Extreme X79 Mobo - 64GB DDR3 1600MHz - 8 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance Low Profile - CAS 10-10-10-27 - AMD Radeon RX 6700XT Sapphire Pulse 12GB - DeepCool E-Shield E-ATX Tempered Glass Case - 1 x 1TB Crucial P1 NVMe SSD - BeQuiet Straight Power 11 850W Gold+ Quad rail - Fractal Design Celsius S36 & 6 x 120mm silent fans - Lenovo KBBH21 - Corsair Glaive RGB Pro - Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit

Monitors - 3 x Acer Nitro 23.8" 1080p 75Hz IPS 1ms Freesync Panels = AMD Eyefinity @ 75Hz

Yeah, but who will manage to get it to be a pinned thread?
