Google's anti-DDoS service

rhyseyness

Haven't got a lot of time but here's the article.

Sorry if it's a repost.

I shall update later :)

EDIT:

As it seeks to fight various forms of censorship, Google has announced Project Shield, an anti-distributed denial of service (DDoS) service.

It has invited those running independent news, human rights and elections-related websites to sign up for a trial. “Project Shield is an initiative to use Google’s infrastructure to protect free expression online,”

So, having had a proper read of the article, and now having some time on my hands, here are my thoughts:

I think it's great that a huge multinational coorporation is getting behind this. It's been too long that DDoS attacks have been a problem, and I think it needs this kind of a push to stop such attacks. Since it's google, I think the technology should be sound, and we could be seeing a great piece of consumer software in the future to protect us not only from DDoS attacks, but also from unwanted surveillance.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this unravels.
