Viewer's Choice PC Nov 2016

I'm confused.

Linus posted in the comment section of the video that they know what people bought, but they don't know who bought it.

But he says in the video there is 1 guy buying 10 dell monitors. So Linus does know who bought what to some degree.

What's going on? Usually i don't care about conflicting information but tbh this is imo in an area where privacy is a worry.

I know LMG is usually very clear about this and i'm hoping this can be explained...

i would say it is a fault with of amazon itself

Amazon could simply say

"Someone bought 10 monitors on this day at this time"

instead of

"this guy bought these many of this monitor at this time and was delivered to this address"(i know this bcoz i am amazon affiliate myself )

it goes out as (front screen/receipt )

User bought this at this time

(when you click it )

it gives the following details

Amazon user ID

Shipping details

method of shipping and payment (we get a slightly higher cut for payments by credit and debit cards)

Can't believe some guy bought 10 monitors in 1 shot.

Easy, it was a business purchase.

I bought 10 250GB SSDs, then another 5 250GB SSDs and 6 24" monitors.

Should I have purchased them from the supplier? Probably, but I didn't know any suppliers at that time or how to find out who they are.

I'm pretty sure those 10x Dell monitors are for a some business. Mind you Dell has some of the best monitors that don't scream gaming so no reason not to go for them.

I have to say I enjoyed the video, would like to see more, I'm just not sure how to make them interesting after a while since there's not much you can talk about and talking on a monthly basis would be too much. Maybe a quarter report?

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

this was an interesting video for sure, would definitely watch more! kinda cool seeing what people are actually buying.

seeing a video on non-tech stuff would be cool too, but would definitely turn into a "what's the weirdest thing you can buy on amazon" competition

I did buy Acer's, but I needed them that day and they were ridiculously cheap in a store.

That's what I thought at first, that they see orders, hence they can know whether it's 10 orders of 1 item or one order fo 10 items. But you seem to tell us otherwise:

Doesn't this contradict what @nicklmg told us? o.O

Would be good to see the system identified here used as the test system for Workshop episodes. Perhaps updating it quarterly to reflect the stuff LTT users are currently buying.

It's actually a pretty good idea to have something like "the average Joe test bench", that would definitely be a "real world benchmark". The usual tests ("can A perform better than B?") are fine, but it's also useful to measure how much of a difference for the typical user would it make.

I'm not sure, but Linus has a discount code that gives a percentage off on Amazon purchases when using his links or putting some sort of code, but he knows some info of people using it.

Edit: I've searched it up and you don't get a percentage off, but instead he gets some money by Amazon only from his links. But then I'm confused as to how he knows about other products! If I could I'd delete this but no one will see it anyways.

Can I still get the Amazon discount code somehow or not anymore? How does it work? ?

It's not a discount code, it's what Amazon used to call an "Amazon affiliate code". You go on Amazon and buy stuff just like you used to, but when you use that link LinusMediaGroup gets a small kickback.

The idea behind is that Linus shows a product, which causes people to buy the product. That is basically an advertisement, so Amazon gives Linus some money for it.

All Amazon links you can find on the forum already have the code added (so this should work.. https://www.amazon.com/)

The tag added at the end of a link is this: ?tag=linustechtips-21

EDIT: yeah, the Amazon link works. The tag however seems to have changed to "?tag=linus21-20"

Just visiting that link and buying stuff will help out LTT

Thank for replying, but I searched it and found out before I saw your reply. If you can see I've edited it (I'm not sure how making, editing and deleting comments works here, I'm new to this site). But how does Linus know about all these "weird" stuff (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Cb4FoQecOc)? Is he promoting them somewhere (where and why)? Is there some sort of way he can see what other stuff people who used his links bought? Is he hacking people's computers?!

Linus can see what products have been bought, after people use the LTT Amazon link.

Also, I'm pretty sure if you visited a tagged Amazon link, the stuff you buy within 24 hours of visiting that link will count towards that link.* So it's not that people specifically bought these products directly after visiting the LTT Amazon link.

* don't quote me on that part, I believe I heard it some time but couldn't find a source to confirm or deny it.
