Microsoft hikes prices, blames brexit (enterprise)

Belgarathian

Isn't Microsoft dealing with Ireland and not North Ireland thus being immune to Brexit?

The price hike is for customers in the UK, who pay in pounds. Since the pound is worth less, they now have to pay more pounds. That keeps the revenue roughly level for Microsoft (whether in euros in its European division or dollars back home).

Such a sharp increase could cause some companies to look elsewhere, I think MS would have done well to increase it more gradually. Especially given Linux's progress in the server market. It also raises a question mark over cloud computing I haven't seen come up before, price volatility due to currency fluctuations, has to be a consideration now for any company based outside the US.

I'm assuming most employers wouldn't move to Linux on the employees PCs though because of retraining costs and having tailored software replaced. Though If I have to give up Excel at work for it's Libre office equivalent I shall not be amused.

Western democracy in its current form is over-hyped and broken. Optimists are celebrating the sky hasn't fallen yet, but to me it is not a matter of if, but when, and how hard.

To the OP's comment about Apple, they would also face the same pricing pressures.

100% agree, the the cost difference would be larger given the reduced management of the OS over time.

A reasonable proposition would be for all billing to be quoted in Euro, to show that the price hasn't changed since before brexit.

Although price adjustment on software for each country is nothing new.

All that would achieve would be to line the pockets of the banks even more as they charge pretty huge conversion rates to customers paying in non UK currency. It cost me £3 to pay $3 because Twitch refuse to acknowledge any currency except the USD exists.

If your going to mock us at least do it factually, afternoon tea is served at between 2pm & 3pm (or 14:00 to 15:00 for the intelligent parts of the world). 17:00 is Dinner time if your from the south or tea (which simply means your main meal of the day) time if your from up north (if your Scottish then 17:00 is open your third bottle of Scotch time). :P

Also I think you meant English, Scotland don't want brexit and are currently beginning their fight back against it. They're pushing for a second independence referendum next year.

Until the moment when an inspection comes to check if you're using original software. It's cheaper to pay for OS than pay the fine which can be astronomical. And let's not forget the possible legal actions.

Don't forget, this edition is aimed at businesses.

inspection? Maybe things work differently where you live, but last I checked there was no government agency doing rounds and inspecting computers for licensed software. And if its not sanctioned by the government, why on earth would anyone comply? I'm sure as hell never letting a private organization just dig around in my systems because they feel like it.

Well here we have a government agency that does exactly that. The agency would be the State Inspectorate. They go on random checks, as well on reports, be it over phone or via an on-line form.
Since it is a government agency, got luck on not complying. :P

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

I hate to sound like a bitter loser, but what else did people think would happen when we voted for ecomic suicide. Seriously, this is the problem now, people don't think. That's why I'm worried about the US election result.
