Hi everyone,

So for school i use a HP Elitebook 2560p 12,5". It has a i5 2540m core i5, 8GB DDR3 RAM and a 240GB SSD. But i believe it has some cooling issues. On idle it runs at around 60 degrees, with the power adapter plugged in. When the power adapter is plugged out it runs around 10 degrees cooler. But under load it get's way too hot. For a school project we need to set up a minecraft server and build our school with it including the computercraft mod. Bit when playing minecraft it goes over 90 degrees celcius. The highest i got was 93 degrees. I already changed the thermal plaste and cleaned the air vents. It doesn't make a difference. The cover does block the cooling fan. But leaving the cover off also doesn't change that much.

Is it still safe to use the laptop under such temps? And is there a solution to this problem?

Thanks.

Try cut out the vents so the holes are bigger on the exhaust and intake,  that should improve airflow,  also on a desk prop it up on a book so the bottom isn't flat against the desk and has more breathing space.

Thank you. I am going to drill and cut a part of the bottom out to improve airflow. I did notice that the temps get more stable after a few minutes. Now minecraft runs at 65 to 70 degrees. Still a bit hot though.

Its normal for laptops to run hot.  85c is the highest you want it to go really.
