Computer Not Working...

Adisaur

Hey guys!

I recently built my first pc (yesterday) but when I'm connecting it to a monitor I'm not getting any video output. Someone told me it could be the RAM but I want to make sure that that's right. I installed the RAM first in DIMM4 and then In DIMM2. In my motherboard manual though it says to install the RAM in DIMM2 first. Does that make a difference? Could anyone please help.

Installation order of the DIMMs doesn't matter. A full list of specs would be nice, and do you have a graphics card installed? If so, do you have the display cable plugged into the graphics card?

Nope that shouldn't matter. The DIMM2 is just if you are using 1 stick of RAM. Make sure you are plugged into the graphics card. Also make sure your graphics card has power to it if it needs it.

Are you connecting via HDMI or DVI-D. Recommend using the DVI-D for the initial connection if you can. I initially had issues with the HDMI ports on that and my video card.

I was using HDMI. What do you mean by 'that'?

Use your DVI connection to initially set up the computer instead of using the HDMI port. If that works you'll need to do a bios update in order to get it to work.

I'll try that thanks. And could it be a RAM issue by any chance?

Probably not as long as you've got it installed in the right DIMMS like your manual says. If it is a ram issue, I would get two more of the exact same sticks and just install it in all four slots.

What if I try replacing my RAM sticks with my friend's for the time being. That could act as a verification

You could definitely try that since you know your friends RAM sticks work. You could try your ram in theirs as well to check both.

does the debug led give you a code? if it does look it up.

have you tried a different monitor?

go drug/knockout your friend and take his ram and try it, while your at it take is his monitor also if you don't have a 2nd one test. even better take his working pc, your problem doesn't mater anymore. odds are you'll lose a friend but now you have a working pc which is nice.

15% of the reviews on amazon are one star could be a sign.

maybe one of those people have the same problem as you, so get reading someone else might found the fix for it too. then you won't have to knock out your friend for his stuff.

Double check all of your PSU connections, make sure you have them all plugged in. Does your motherboard have a way to reflash the BIOS without booting up? If it does, update or reflash your BIOS. Are there any debug codes displayed?

Thanks guys it was the RAM. I reinstalled each DIMM to test it and finally it worked. Thanks for the help. :-)
