HELP NEEDED

I was literally about to buy my parts when I realized this:

My RAM (Corsair Vengeance) has a height of 31mm.

My CPU cooler (Cryorig H5 Ultimate) supports 30-35 mm RAM. Depending on the height of the RAM, the height of the cooler is 160-168.3mm.

My case (Phanteks P400S) only supports 160mm CPU coolers. Will the Cryorig H5 Ultimate fit??

See if you can find anyone using the H5 Ultimate with your motherboard because the fan might not cover all the RAM slots.  If it does cover the slots you're going to have to move the fan up at least 1mm so if Phanteks 160mm measurement is exact you're out of luck.

Well, I've heard it doesn't cover anything but the first slot. I checked and I'll be fine for this build, since my motherboard uses DIMMs 2 and 4 first. It's just... I might upgrade RAM in the future, and I think I am out of luck. Don't know if I should still get it though.

Says that the CPU cooler height is 170mm... who should I trust?

The reviewer hopefully measured right up to the side panel and the 160mm spec from Phanteks is probably a little conservative.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. I'm just going to go ahead and buy it. Since I know it will work for two sticks of RAM, if it doesn't for 4... oh well. When I upgrade I'll just by one 16GB stick. Thanks for your help!

Tom's Hardware reports the same... since they're quite reliable, I think I'll be fine.

If you have your H5 Ultimate's fan positioned for a 160mm clearance, you will lose the first RAM slot. If you can raise the fan (I think 168mm is as tall as it gets), you won't have any issues with standard height or LP RAM.

 

Check the PCIe slot clearance, too. The H5 Ultimate all but prevented me from using the first PCIe slot on my Micro ATX motherboard when I had it installed.

Er... how do I check that?

If you want all RAM slots, you can use fan as pull instead of push.

 

Since most air coolers block 1st slot and most mid-high end GPUs, you are fine.
