Hard Drive Problems after surge

So a pc got damaged while a power surge and I replaced a power supply since it wasnt turning on and when I did it said something like no bootable hard drive or something. It was a sata hard drive but a older one. I think the pc had like windows Xp or something. Should I replace the drive? Would that help?

Yes, buy a new drive and reinstall windows.

Also, stop using windows xp.

Could you specify the specs of the PC? Do you need the data from the old drive or you would like to make a fresh install of the OS?

If the drive was damaged too you need to replace it and do a fresh install of the OS. Check what your specs allow you to do and see if you can get any data off the old drive. 

 

Let me know if you need help with the drive swap, fresh install or recovering the data from the old drive :)

Oh I fixed it by getting a new hard drive and installing linux

I couldn't get the data off. I couldn't even hear it spin. And my neighbors is planning to stay on Linux if theres no problems

It should be OK staying on that OS as long as they have all their applications running on that OS.
