Windows 7 freezes and stops responding

Alright, so I have noticed this happening when I leave it on to download games in steam. Every time I come back to see if it finished them it is unresponsive. All outputs are unavailable and I have to power down the system. Why is this? It is a new build so could it be a part?

W7 has been unresponsive for the last month or so, Just at random while browsing through files on my drives or opening things like CPUID, GPUZ, EVGa precision X, and prety much everything. The owner of the youtube channels I watch had most of his PC bricked from a windows update, I want to say that one of my recent updates caused these issues and might be causing yours too.

I have 3 fully updated Windows 7 installs, no problems. You are using a legal version right?

of course, I wouldn't drop $2500 on my rig and use a pirated copy of windows

I'm not saying you did, but you never know what can happen with a pirated version.  Have you tried doing a system restore?  Maybe you installed a bad/corrupted update.

My system restore is from after the update so it won't fix anything.

well the first thing i would do. is   try a UPS Battery Backup unit and plug the pc into it..

and check to see if fixes it.    ( bad power can crash a pc )

if you dont have a UPS Battery Backup. try using a long cord and plug the pc into a outlet in a different room

 

if this doesn't fix it.. check the windows Event Viewer .it will help point you in the right direction

That makes quite a bit of sense. I will try and isolate my tower from all other components and see if that has any effects.

Do you have any other machines that have all the same updates?  If another machine is having the problem then it might be a software issue.

My laptop is on Windows 8 but my brother has Windows 7. He hasn't had the same problem ever but I don't know which updates he has.

I could blindly recommend a reinstall but that might be overkill when it might just be something like a bad driver.
