still loving my 980 in my second rig. it's basically as fast as a 1060 6 GB

i've seen so many topics asking whether to get the 1060 or 480 and each thread ends up with either favouring one card over the other.

FIrst you need to look at the raw specs of the card (this is for graphics not compute).

 

To determine GPU performance first you have shader count, than you have the other units like texture units, ROPs, etc. This bit usually favours the flagship GPU as it will have the highest of each compared to the mid tier. The 1060 may win in shader and raw shader performance but may lose out to the 480 in ROPs and other stuff.

 

Next you need to look at the memory amount and bandwidth. This bit the 480 wins over the 1060. 1080p gaming already takes more than 3GB of vram for many games.

 

Usually if comparing the 1060 to 480 dont look at the technology (like dx12, vulcan), the 480 is a better card than the 1060 overall so its just down to the features you want of the card thats either nvidia specific or AMD specific. Honestly even in other threads so many said not to look at dx12 or vulcan which currently favours AMD and i would not listen to those guys because thats the old argument similar saying that 4GB of ram was enough when now 8GB is considered a basic amount of ram.

I'm not the OP >_< I was agreeing with your post and then replied that I have personal experience with a 980.. and that I found it's performance to be basically the same (butting heads) with the 1060 6 GB

Thats not how it works lol. 1060 has less of everything compared to 970 and it destroys it. Im contacting someone about a 980 right now
