Even if you had no Z170 I would still recommend going unlocked because of above reason. Many people in the past have thanked me for making them do that.

Bam. He doesn't need a 6700K. he just said he doesnt understand overclocking. Anyone that doesn't understand it probably wouldnt be comfortable with it either. Thats why i originally recommended the 6700 non-k. save a few dollars on the CPU  and the motherboard. just cause his budget is 1500 doesnt mean he needs to spend 1500

I used to run Chrome on 8 GB's of RAM. Had about 70 tabs open at once without any issues.

Intel has locked (non K) and unlocked (K) CPU's. K CPU's can be overclocked (OC) beyond their factory settings and have an unlocked multiplier, henche the unlocked. OC helps to gain more performance without spending money on a better CPU, because you increase the limits of performance possible. OC has some drawbacks like needing more cooling and more power usage if OCed. But a simple OC is no hassle these days, and can be easily done if needed with proper parts.

 

For the GPU: You need a 1070 atleast for 1440p 120Hz. Performance wise the Asus strix and EVGA ACX 3.0 cooler perform similar and trade blows in the performance of steady boost clocks and average fps output. However the EVGA is always more silent and a bit cooler. But if EVGA is hard to get or way more expensive go with the Strix: it's also a very good one.

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/wVXckT I remade the build with a GTX 1080 so you can push out over 100 fps in your games at 1440p. the cpu like i said earlier will also help with workstation use and will get better results in gaming as well over an i5.

the asus will be more powerful just by a couple of frames, I myself got the asus strix, and I have no problem recommending it
