Need help deciding on mic setup.

Hey guys, so I'm currently in the process of buying audio technica at875r. Was wondering whats a good portable recorder on a budget. I'm using this to make a short film :D Would the DR40 be a good choice?

The Tascam DR40 is a good recording device.  There are always going to be better or worse products, depends on what you need and your budget.
