Should I get the YI M1 Mirrorless Camera?

AlanAlan

I saw that xiaomi released this and I have been looking for a first camera. Do you do it is a good option? Do you think it is good for shooting video?

It looks promising as a budget camera option, but I really haven't seen anything about it so I would avoid it for the time being. Reviews mean more than specs

way too early to tell

its really going to be limited due to the touch screen though, but it could be an interesting device indeed

Would it be a competitor to the Panasonic G7?

There are almost no reviews out, the G7 will be better in almost every way

depends what price the Yi comes out at, and if having no physical controls makes it horrible to use

dont just go off the specs

The Yi is out for about $500 with a kit lens, which is 200 less than the g7
First Impressions seem to be pretty mediocre, sadly. The interface seems good though

still lacking on in depth reviews and samples

I think without physical controls and that its not much less than a G7 makes it a pretty pointless purchase, if it was like $300-400 maybe i would think differently

I think it would have been a lot more interesting if it were a G7 but 200 dollars less without physical controls. Maybe not for pros, but as a slightly more serious point & shoot for beginners. Sadly, seems like its also slightly worse, which means there are better options

problem is beginners soon learn and then the camera is useless

its interesting but not sure it will be a great success or a particularly great camera

What is a good choice for a beginners camera?

any camera

no camera is particularly easier than another and you still change the same settings in manual

A decent Canon/Nikon/Sony/Olympus/Fuji either DSLR or Mirrorless would be my choice

While that is true I wouldn't personally go with anything from Canon's 1xxxD series or market equivalent, you will want to upgrade very soon, try one series up instead.

At that price, something like a Canon 700D/Nikon D3300(?)/ Sony a6000 I personally recommend one of the former 2 options.
