Is it worth getting custom fans? Eg Noctua?

Inrix

I'm considering getting a full set of custom fans (Probably noctua since I have heard that they are some of the best) for my new PC and home server... Is it worth it? Is their anything I should look out for?

I was thinking of getting the silent ones for the server and the normal ones or middleground ones for the pc... What are your thoughts/recommendations? Is it even worth it?

Also, IMO it depends on your use case. Depending on where you will place the computers, what case you are using and what hardware.

You can spend an extra couple dollars, but noctua fans are like $15-20 PER FAN. Never buying that myself that's for damn sure, unless they come out with my exact colors or an American flag fan

Depends what you are looking for. They wont help much with performance, but if its acoustics you want, they are better.

I'm more interested in cooling and acoustics. Especially acoustics with the server... After I get the chance to watch the video I might do another form post on what fans ppl would recommend if I decide its worth spending a bit more.

There's no need to make multiple threads for the same discussion. You can continue that in this thread.

Noctua fans perform well for the noise and can get extremely quiet.

I'm not sure what you're referring to by 'silent ones vs normal ones' in the OP though.

Whether they're appropriate or worth it depends on where you're using the fans, your sensitivity to noise, pricing, and how much you're comfortable with spending.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

For a server, fan noise won't be that important because HDDs tend to be loud.

I made the mistake of putting a bunch of BeQuiet Silentwings2 fans in my own NAS.  I can't hear any fan noise but the 8 WD Red HDDs more than make up for that.

If anything, I'd suggest the following:

Get expensive fans (SilentWings2, the high-end Noctuas, etc) for the PC so you can use that without having too much noise, put normal/industrial fans in the server and make sure the server is somewhere remote, like the basement or its own cabinet.

Are the high-end fans worth the price premium?   That depends on how much you value silence and longevity.

Got Noctua's since a month. Before that i always used the fans that came with the cases. But yes its worth it, the cooling is beter. And the noise is a compleetly different. Before i always could hear the system running, which wasn't anoying by any means. But now i can barely or not hear/notice it. And yes the quite edition cool sufficient enough, unless your going for high overclocks. But it costs a pretty penny yeah, thats the only downside imho.

Depends. These days many cases come with high quality fans, most of the times I wouldn't replace them. I grabbed Noctua's for my AIO's radiator, but the stock fans were of rather poor quality to begin with.

For example, some of the higher end NZXT, BeQuiet, Phateks, etc cases have really nice fans. BeQuiet's fans seemed very very close to the Noctuas performance-wise when I tried them, and dare I say more quiet.

I replaced my case fans with noctua nf-a14s and my temps are slightly lower, but it's a hell of a lot quieter. So in short, if you crave quietness then yes.

Quality aftermarket fans offer better acoustics and higher reliability thanks primarily to better bearings. If it's simply better temperatures you're after, it's not going to make a noticeable difference unless you're replacing stock fans with Deltas, in which case I hope you're deaf. I'd also take a look at the new be quiet! Silent Wings 3 fans if you're going to do it and Cougar Vortexes are very decent for the money.
