Starting Youtube On A Budget.

AlanAlan

I have around $300 that I can spend on equipment. Any suggestions? I want to make a channel focusing tech. I want to learn how to make b-roll. I want to make some creative visuals. What are some good ways to start off?

Spending money on gear for a youtube channel is not going to make your successful or get more than 20 viewers.

You should just do it as a hobby for fun, or you're going to be really disappointed when you spend hundreds of dollars for less than a hundred subs and make $5 back.

b-roll meaning bank roll? meaning money? it takes a while. I make well edited videos and it will take me about 3 hours to edit a 10 minute clip. And that doesn't include adding fancy things like neato transitions and on screen effects. That's taking out the pauses, adding some basic transitions, realizing I forgot something, re-recording the video than editing that in. You will want a newer gen i7 processor and a decent rest of your hardware. You can start on a free video editor like davinci resolve, I think adobe has a free version of premiere, or you can buy Adobe Premiere Elements for ~$100. Don't bother buying a nice mic or anything until your videos get more than 1000 views or so

in my understanding, a b-roll is a second camera put up at a different angle than the main camera (a-roll?) - that term might come from back when cameras used reel-to-reel film rolls for storage - the b-roll could be usefull in editing to add in a few snippets in different angles here and there and maybe for providing some outtakes or "behind the scenes" content after the actual video

Buy a small plug in lapel mic for $20ish bucks, a tripod and smartphone adapter. clap to line up the transient peaks to sync the audio. Use your phone to record video, or a handy cam or digital camera if you've got one.

Upgrade your pc, or buy tech your interested in and want with the rest of the money, and review it all. film your b-roll etc.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

Yeah, focus on learning to record and edit first. start with something like a logitech C920 or C922.

I know i am not really going to do it for money. I want to improve my videography skills. I want a platform where someone can critique my work.

So, basically I am asking is there a camera around $300 dollars that I can purchase to start to make some videos. For fun and not for money.

Whatever the equivalent of the 1300d is in the US should do at that price point new.

You might be able to get a used 700d or 60d if you look hard enough in ebay/amazon used/ craigslist etc.

What equipment do you already own and what do you need?

Camera?

Audio gear?

Lights?

Props?

Well $300 is not a lot of money.  You can consider getting a brand new camcorder or a DSLR/mirrorless in the used market, perhaps something like a used Nikon D3200 or some Canon or Sony.
