Is the Nvidia shield tv/console worth getting now?

Was planning on grabbing it once it goes on sale again, but now I'm seeing reports and rumors about a new model. Should I wait or do you guys think that possibility is far enough into the future?

main purpose would be for local / portable media playback with an external hdd

though i would probably also use it for its emulators

I read that a new version of the NVidia Shield TV unit was just passed through fcc or some such thing.

The Shield TV or the tablet? You mentioned portable.

 

I'd throw a lot in for the tablet more, but the cables will add to the cost.

tv as title says, when i said portable i meant to bring it from house to house easily not on the road
