Kodi box

Mikius10001

Hey all,

Not entirely sure if this is the right place to put this, but I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this box here

https://www.amazon.ca/Upgrade-Version-Android-Mashmallow-Streaming/dp/B01M0QSVBI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1475769771&sr=8-1&keywords=A95X+Upgrade+Version+TV+Box

Or if anyone has any inputs on other boxes that are worth looking in to, bearing in mind I'm attempting to remain under $75 CAD (I'm cheap, really though, tight budget)

Side note: The reason I picked this one is because it had 2GB of RAM, the most recent version of Android and seemingly has it's own GPU, not just CPU.

i really dislike the way they market the thing.

they seem to have a logo for everything kodi can do (and a few things it cant ;)) but seem to be unable to understand the name of a "HDMI" port and a "micro SD card slot"

that said, what would be the price for a raspberry pi 3, SD card, and usb power brick in your area?

@manikyath People ahve suggested that, but I have no idea how to get a Raspberry Pi working. But I could probably get it all for $75 or less.

you download kodibuntu, load it onto the SD card, slot it in, and magic happens.

the reason i'd push for a pi instead of a box like you linked is because the pi is made by a credible company (those settop guys do it for the profit, and give zero shits about legal greyzones or producing quality), and when you decide the device should be something else you can make it so.

@manikyath Ya know what, I think it's time I take on a little project. I have no idea what I'm doing but I'm going to make that Raspberry Pi work :)

Raspberry Pi's are good, but some of the Android boxes are seriously good, especially if you deal in h.265 HEVC videos as they can decode in hardware, whereas the Pi3 can't.... I have several of these boxes now and they run great... it's a bonus with me if they can play games and run other android software, the main reason I have them is for consuming media, 4k media also. Do you need to be it from Canada? or are you willing to take a shot on buying a box from China? if the latter I can make a suggestion or 2 for you if you want, tell me what you want the box to be able to do and I'll check it out for you :)

@paddy-stone Well, I really just want it to have Kodi, with the Exodus addon for free HD streaming of movies, Netflix, and Youtube, that's quite literally it. I would prefer that it's within canada or US. I know most of them are probably made overseas but out of site out of mind :P haha. I do want it to be sub $75 CAD though.

I don't currently have a 4K TV, but it's possible that in the next year or so I might, so that would be a bonus but not a necessity.

Ok, i'll have a look on amazon.ca for you and see if I can find the right model(s) that I have tested and used myself... do you need it to be 4k capable? as in 60hz 4k which means it has to have HDMI 2.0.

@paddy-stone My TV is pretty old, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no, lol. Although I think you read my comment before the edit.

No worries, most are 4k capable now anyway...

I have found this one for you.. it's right near the top of your budget, but I have heard good things about this one even though I haven't tried it (yet) myself.  https://www.amazon.ca/NEXBOX-2G-16G-Pre-installed-Streaming/dp/B01JO5B690/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1475772414&sr=8-7&keywords=4k+android+tv+box

Have a look and read some of the reviews of it, seems a decent box.

@paddy-stone Isn't that the same as the one I originally linked just in a different wrapper? and $10 more? haha The $10 being the HDMI cable I assume

*Edit: I see a couple subtle differences and the one you picked it a tiny bit better*

Ah to late, bought the one you linked anyways :) @paddy-stone

Cool, no worries, sorry about the late reply... have been trying to chill tonight as have had a busy week and my pain levels are high right now. I hope you will be blown away by your purchase, they are really something to behold when you have a good Kodi box, whether it's android or other :)

Let me know if you have any problems/questions and I'll try and help out if I can... I have actually been using XBMC/kodi since the very early days when it was only on xbox original. I even wish I still had that box sometimes it was a joy to play on, including all the emulators there were too... yeah I know  ima old :P
