Hd 6970 lightning

D148xZ

I recently bought an hd 6970 for next to nothing, it is in good condition cosmetically and the fans spin when I start it up.

On the site where I bought it it said that it wasn't working and that he couldn't install the drivers. I assumed the guy didn't know what he was talking about and bought it. When it arrived it was -like he said- acting weird. The latest drivers are installed and the computer sees the card but in device manager it says code 43. When I try to open Amd Radeon settings it just says "No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware." I can't get any display through the card and I've reinstalled the drivers.

Can somebody please help me out.

Any help will be appreciated.

Would it show the product name in device manager if it needed reballing?

Use DDU and uninstall the drivers.

Then try to reinstall the correct drivers for the card the 6000 series are legacy so try the 15.7.1 drivers.

If this doesn't work then the code 43 is a hardware issue though, take the card apart, are carefully inspect it to make sure nothing is shorting, reapply thermal paste, and see if that helps, if not it is dead.

There is the very dangerous and highly risky procedure of cooking the card in an oven to reflow the solder to repair it, but is a temporary fix.

You will need a BGA repair station to actually fully repair the card.
