Top fans set up as intake or exhaust? Please help.

AlexC1202

Hey guys,

So i'm kinda new into the business so please forgive me if i'm asking stupid questions.

I have a Phanteks P400S case, with a H110i radiator mounted on the front of the case set up as intake, and another 120mm fan in the back as exhaust.

I bought 2 x 140mm Corsair fans that i want to mount on the top for better cooling. I cannot put the H110i at the top because of clearance issues.

So how should i configure the 2 extra fans mounted on top? Should i set them up as exhaust and create a negative pressure, or set them up as intake?

Which of the 2 solutions will provide the best cooling in your educated opinion?

Thanks and best regards,

I would mount the H110i fans as exhaust, and the back and top fans as intakes.

I never thought about that. Thanks!

One question though, wouldn't that mean that the CPU temperatures will be worse because i am running hot air through the radiator?

Also, is it ok if the radiator fans will be in a pull configuration? i cannot mount them on a push configuration (so the fans inside the case pushing air out through the radiator).

Would they do the trick in pull config?

2x 140's in the front
 as intake

AIO at top as exhaust

and 120 on the rear as exhaust at about 60%

but I guess I'm weird like that

The OP stated the AIO doesn't fit at the top.

Yep, AIO doesn't have clearance at the top in the case that i have....unfortunately...

The rear doesn't have filter though.

Which did you get first, AIO or the case?

Coz really, you should've consider how the airflow is going to be before pulling the trigger.

Okay, but I would find that setup more ideal, filter or not.

^ I'd probably go with that.

There really isn't much choice really.

The lack of top rad mount is quite disappointing in this case.

Setting them as exhaust would be better for cooling.

Both at the same time. I figured it's not such a big deal if the AIO sits in the front. I couldn't find any other aesthetically pleasing case in that budget.

And if i do the top 2x140mm as intake, and the H110i and the back fan as exhaust, wouldn't that be kinda the same thing? Then the lack of filter of the back fan wouldn't be a problem.

Exhaust, because hot air goes up.

Inside a PC case that doesn't really matter. Air moves constantly and fans determinate where air goes.

Temps would be under 5C different. You can always do some testing, but won't matter that much in the end.

Having rear exhaust would make top intakes useless. Cool air would be sucked out before it can do anything. Buy some filters instead. Much easier.
