4k downscaled to 1440p

Go to solution Solved by Badger906,

Running a 4k display at 1440p will look massively better than 1080p!!

Running at a non native resolution isn't always perfect though. Specially at 1440p as it's not equally divisible into 4k.

It's not a major issue. Some people say it's blurry and less responsive but I never had an issue.

I used to run games at 1440p when I first got my 4k monitor as I only had a GTX770!

Might sound stupid, but what would look better in terms of quality,

4k downscaled to 1440p, or just outright 1080p?

And no, I can't buy a native res 1440p monitor so don't ask that.

If you cant buy/don't have a 1440p monitor, then you can display 1440p footage without further downscaling. generally speaking, uncompressed/lossless compression of footage will look best when displayed on it's native resolution. (if you shot the footage in 792p, it will look best on a 792p display) however, video streaming services heavily compress the videos they send, and on something like youtube, the higher the resolution, the better, simply because there is more bitrate. 1440p on 4k is pretty bad, the ratio doesnt add up. its way better 1080p because its gonna be 2:1 ratio. I tried many res and 1080p is definetly better if your planning to play downscaled game. 1440p just doesnt look good, everything is weird

Can someone tell me with experience using an actual monitor? The reason I can't get a native 1440p monitor is because it's going in a laptop screen and my two options are 1080 or 4k. It only costs an extra 100 dollars for 4k so I don't see why not.

The answer I read online states that 1440p looks better downscaled than 1080p.

people will tell you id look bad.. it doesnt. i never thought it did. completed dying light and GTA V in 1440p without an issue on a 4k monitor.
