Connecting a HDMI 2.0 enabled receiver to a dp 1.2 ultrawide monitor

macknade

Hi everyone.
I've got a little bit of a dilemma. I have a 4k HDMi 2.0 receiver with all HDMI. Including 2 outputs. Now I would like to connect the ssecond output to my monitor a 21:9 2560x1080 http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/dell-u2913wm/pd however this monitor has an older HDMI standard that doesnt support 21:9. So I need to find a way of getting the HDMI 2.0 converted into DP 1.2 . There is active converters out there but i thought they where only one way?! i.e. dp to hdmi not the other way round.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You don't need HDMI 2.0.

HDMI 1.4 will do that resolution just fine.

HDMI 2.0 is for 4k at 60Hz.

To my knowledge. HDMI doesn't support the 21:9 ration until HDMI 2.0. Its the shape of the screen thats the problem. not the amount of pixels.

Display interfaces don't need any special support for different aspect ratios. I know HDMI 2.0 lists "support for 21:9" as one of the new features, but I don't know what they're talking about as it is complete nonsense. HDMI 1.4 will do 21:9 just fine and many people run 21:9 monitors through HDMI 1.4 ports.

The aspect ratio doesn't matter.

The cable interface just has a limit on throughput.

As long as your resolution and refresh rate fit in that throughput, it will work.

The shape of the screen is determined by the display controller, not the HDMI interface.

If it's a 21:9 monitor then it will obviously support incoming 21:9 signals.
