I would upgrade your monitor then. Would you rather have more detailed images or faster response and smoother gameplay?

He could always add a new 2560x1440 monitor at a later date.

 

Squeezed in an i7 for a bit more money.  Left mass storage out, it can be added in later... when it is needed.

I think you can definitely get a monitor alongside a computer to drive it for your budget :) This option keeps the RGB keyboard.

That mobo won't let you overclock you need a z170 version. I would add an ssd for the os and programs, go for the evga ftw card instead of the msi one and get an evga gq, gs, g1 or g2 instead of the nex
