Can you transfer an OS to SSD from HDD?

Sgt-PieFace

I will be upgrading my computer with mostly new parts in the next little while, and one of the parts I am getting will be an SSD. I want my OS (Windows 10 64Bit) on the SSD, but its currently on an HDD.

Can it be transferred from the HDD to the SSD safely?

Thanks

Yup. a Lot of SSDs will actually come with software to do just that. I do suggest doing a fresh install though.

Yes. IF the build is sufficiently well-managed with no errors or issues on HDD you're free to clone (I prefer images) to an SSD after a "chkdsk" and virus/malware scan.

Yeah but you shouldn't, it's bad practice.

Do a clean install the proper way, it's not hard.

How would one remove windows from the HDD without losing the files on the HDD

I'm just a random teenager from New Jersey. Why would you listen to me?

Yes you can.  Or the other way around (although the urge to self-harm will be high if you downgrade from a SSD to a HDD!).

I'd personally do a fresh install on the SSD and move whatever important data from the HDD to the SSD before wiping the hdd.

Otherwise yes you can safely do it, you can use programs like Clonezilla or macrium reflect to clone the HDD and its data onto the SSD. Do a backup on important things either way though.

The problem here is that I don't have a CD. The OS I have came with the computer I bought. Is there a way to directly transfer/copy the OS over to an SSD?

You don't need a CD...........

Just a USB drive.

If you read the instructions you would know that. http://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-clean-install-windows-10/

Yes I answered that. You can use programs like Clonezilla or macrium reflect to clone the HDD and its data onto the SSD. Do a backup on important things either way though.
