Razer Blade Stealth: DOES IT SUCK?

Stanturbo

I know Razer products get a bad rep for having bad cooling solutions in their gaming laptops. However, I am curious whether that applies to the Blade Stealth (since it's an Ultrabook and doesn't have a dgpu to cool).

While I am FAR from letting Razer's marketing persuade me into buying the Stealth and the Core, I wanted to know if the dual core processor in the Stealth would bottleneck an external GPU when gaming(for instance, I have a 960 in my desktopi don't use, which already has a crummy Apu inside).

Why do I even bother with these questions, you ask? Because of the Blade Stealth's pricing of around $1K and the fact that it is technically compatible with the Core (regardless of whether that is a realistic solution).

If you watch Linus's video, it does bottleneck powerful external cards. However, I think a 960 would be fine with the i7 as long as you aren't multitasking while running games.

It has no heatsink, just fans blowing at heatpipes so yes, it runs at 85-90*C. 7500U is also weaker than an i3 6100 so yes, it bottlenecks a 960.

Better solution? XPS 15 or UX501VW - MUCH better products

It's a 15W dual-core that can't hold turbo - it's crap and WILL bottleneck. ULVs bottleneck the 960M so the real 960 is even worse

Don't buy the core as its hilariously overpriced. Performance wise with a E-GPU it will take a hit due to it being a basically an i3 but shouldn't be too terrible.

It will not run at 85-90. Like no. Unless you are trying to give it 0 airflow it won't run that hot.

It does - it basically has no heatsink - the paper-thin fans are blowing at heatpipes directly...

Yet the MBP 13' has longer battery runtimes, a superior screen which does NOT use PWM and no flex, unlike the BS.

Actually, the coolers on the Blade series use extremely thin and poor heatpipes causing excessive heating on the components and extreme hotspots. Razer's cooling solution suffered a downgrade from the 2014 models

I'm seeing shitty quality control more than anything. Not really the cooler's fault. On the good built ones they run a little hotter than mine on a gaming load but nothing crazy.

For a 15W ULV that runs at 60-70*C in most ultrabooks - that's quite bad.

I don't understand that no reviewer mentions any of these issues (even Dave Lee, who seems at least more credible than Linus)and even when they do, they say it as if it's not so bad.

For a 15W ULV that runs at 60-70*C in most ultrabooks - that's quite bad.

And my pro runs at 83-87 in a full gaming load. Where do you see that chip running that cool? Most laptops using these chips have shitty coolers.

Most of them don't do PWM testing or extensive thermal testing - NBC and GLJ do those.

No it doesn't. Just a quick google shows that it gets hot under load. Just like anyone should expect.

1 - that is under P95
2 - that is TDP throttling, not thermal throttling

Actually, comparing the BS to a MBP is not even close to a fair comparison

  • The Stealth is quite a lot cheaper while coming with a better processor on the lowest end config
  • The stealth is thinner than the MacBook Air and much thinner and lighter than an MBP
  • Stealth can have a 4K TOUCHSCREEN unlike MBs which Apple still refuses to make touchscreen
  • Windows is less power efficient than Mac OS, just like iOS is more frugal than Android

Lol. That's literally the same thing. It got to hot so it throttled back.
