If you cannot get a GTX 1060

Hello. I'm making a gaming PC build for the first time but could use some help. I would prefer it to have an nvidia graphics card but it is not absolutely necessary. Here is a list of things you might need to know.

BUDGET: 700-850 Pounds

LOCATION: Britain

AIM: Will be used mainly for gaming but will need to do work on it as well

MONITORS: I only plan on running 1 144hz monitor

PERIPHERALS: I plan on buying Windows 10 and monitor separate from the build and if anyone could recommend a budget keyboard and mouse for gaming that would be great.

CASE: I would like a mid case, would prefer a window but not necessary

WHY ARE YOU UPGRADING: I am not upgrading as this is my first build.

Thanks for reading, if you can please help!

That isn't really true. it happens in only a select few games. The very large majority of the time in most games the 6600k will get you to 144hz just fine.

Nah, 6600K bottlenecks a 1070/1080 at 1080p

why are people still on this i5 is god CPU BS.

10% difference in GTA V when both are OCed and most of the time the i5 just catches up to the i7 when it is OCed to 4.5GHz, who says that you can get that OC? Also that is with maxwell Titan X, not Pascal, so this is basically a 1070. This graph is by digitalfoundry.
You might look at it and think oh that is nothing, well now think about the i7 giving you a more stable FPS, now think about that the i5 when running at 4.5GHz bearly gives the same FPS as a stock 6700k and what if you cannot get your i5 to that, now think about if your CPU goes up to 80-90% or over, then you might get some stuttering. Lastly think about the future.

b41227d61898217535329a3fdc5d06ee.png
and then you have this video that shows that at 1080p locked 60 FPS the 6600k at 4.5GHZ has a really hard time with a 1060. We even see 99% in witcher 3 and if you think it will get better in the furture then you are a fool, it will only get worse, when "next gen" games start hitting us in 2-3 years, then that i5 is fucked harder than it already is. Games are getting more and more CPU demanding.

Congratulations. You all picked a handful of games to prove your point. I'm glad we are in agreement (people link these DF videos literally every single time)

I've no desire to have this conversation yet again with a fresh batch of people. If you wanna go cherry pick your CPU bound games in CPU bound situations with inferior RAM and poor logic in order to prove the 6600k is rubbish.... then i shall not interrupt your little club.

I'm not saying the 6600k is the best or perfect or anything along those lines. I'm saying in MOST games (not ALL) this isn't a problem.

Yup now its all good

And here we are, another day, another need to explain why the i5 6600k is not for a GTX 1070/1080

For storage won't I need a hardrive as well because I'm not sure 250gb will fit all my storage in. Also what is the best budget 16gb ram that works with this build and what gtx 1060 should i get? I would also like to know how upgrade able the build is in the future if u could say thanks.

If you cannot get a GTX 1060

Could you clarify for me

-What Hardrive should I use with ssd (would like it to be 1tb)

-What 16gb ram should I put in the build

-how upgrade able is the build

-if I got the gtx 1070 and its bottlenecked will it still perform greater than the gtx 1060

-WD Blue is a decent one

-I recommend a set of G.skill Ripjaws 5

-Pretty good upgrade path, you can get a Kaby Lake CPU latter on

-If you OC it a little bit, it will still perform better than a GTX 1060 even if its bottlenecked

So do you recommend me getting a gtx 1070 and upgrading to Kaby lake in the future. what psu would I upgrade to to make it not bottleneck. Btw thanks so much your very helpful

Look, Its not like that

a PSU cannot bottleneck, a CPU bottlenecks the GPU, and a i5 6600k will bottleneck the GTX 1070, but even if there is a bottleneck, it will perform better than a GTX 1060

The PSU i linked will work just fine

And yes i recommended maybe later upgrading to like a i7 7700k
