Windows pagefile or virtual ram isn't real physical memory. The last 512mb on the 970 is, so it still has 4gb. Does not matter if its perfomance is slower than the rest of it. The rams are physically there. Same as having 4gb but on 32bit. Max os can see is 3.25gb. Can't say there is only 3.25gb, when physically there is 4gb.

That was the deep learning aspects, none of which are in consumer PCs. They may well be including Maxwell development in that as well.

I would assume they are since Pascal was never supposed to exist. Maxwell was supposed to be Pascal, but they had issues with the node so they put Maxwell on 28nm.

I guess so, the same happened to AMD with Fiji, just that Nvidia adapted to the smaller node easier.

I understand what you're trying to say, but the pagefile is physically stored in the storage drives you have in your computer. The important thing however is not where it's located, but how much bandwidth it's getting.

 

I was shown that the last 512mb on the 970 operate at 1/7th the bandwidth, which would put it on the ballpark of dual-channel DDR3-1333.

Even it's 1/7th the bandwidth, it's still there, it exist and that makes the 970 a full 4GB. Can't say it's not there because its bandwidth is less than the rest of the 3.5GB.

Yes it's still there.

 

But when a dev puts their game requirements as 4GB, some of the time (not all), the 970 will tank performance anyway, like in mirror's edge and rotr

That would be a performance issue. Nvidia should have kept the last 0.5GB with the rest, instead of breaking it to a small standalone chunk.

I bet it was a decision they had to make lest they make the 970 perform even closer than the 980, which already was an overclock away from the less expensive SKU.

The 970 perform just as good as the 980 at a much lower cost. But it's not really a budget card when a lot still can't afford it. Even the GTX 960 is out of reach for many.

I am hoping that the 1050 Ti is the card that brings R9 380 level performance at $150. Even then, it's not that big of a value improvement.

I wonder if the same people saying "Lel, too few cuda cores, it won't even beat a 950," were the same ones saying "pfft, 1080 with way less cuda cores is going to be slower than a 980ti,"  followed by "No way the 1070 beats a titan x, it's way too cut down this time, RIP x70 series."

Looks like it will sit between the 960 and the 970. It's not bad at all if it's a card that can be passively cooled or single slot, half height, etc.

Judging by 3Dmark scores, Reference 1050 Ti is better than custom 960 by a bit.

I want to ask you, how much more % perfomance can custom cards offer versus reference ones?

And with day one drivers 1050 Ti can become more powerful right?

Well with a hefty cooling solution it should punch through closer to 970 numbers but with budget cards like this the silicon lottery I suspect is far more relevant since the chips are less rigorously bined (I think, might be talking out of my ass though)

Yeah I know, I still searched up a bit to find out how much perfomance do custom made cards get compared to reference ones(I mean they OC the card). So I should expect 10% more perfomance overall. I doubt this card will ever reach 60C, also additional 6pin power connector for better OCing. I believe first day drivers also improve perfomance. On launch RX 460 was pretty bad, on 750 Ti level, but now It gets same fps as GTX 950 on DX11. And that sweet 4GB VRAM, damn I will be able to play Star Citizen. 

 

I actually read on the leak that those who got card could get 1.5-1.6GHZ, which is not bad.

Could make sense along with the 470 price reduction rumors: It doesn't looks like AMD has an answer for the 140 market right now and the 1050 Ti might be a different kind of sweet spot:

 

100 = Garbage, everyone but CS:GO and moba players should avoid

150ish = 1050 TI

Sub200 = 470

240ish = 1060 6gb

 

It doesn't looks like AMD has much overlap and where they do, it's not very clear cut: the 470 undermines the 480 and the 1060 6gb mostly outpaces it on the 250 range (very few games show a 480 advantage at best it's a tie with the 1060 and it loses on many games even DX12 Async games like GoW4). Pricing is definitively getting funky and complicated now.

That's cheap, but how does it perform? Is this in RX460 territory (the Ti at least)?
