What settings should I use for competitive gaming?

So right now on all of my cometative games like Overwatch, Battlefield 4, ect, I have been settings things so that I get around a 100 FPS give or take and have been keeping vsync off, but I could turn vsync on to eliminate tearing and increase quality if I don't mind getting around 60 FPS, I know vsync introduces input lag but is it really worth it to turn it off? What do you think I should do? Also I have a 60hz monitor.

4:3 that's what I use for CS my mate converted me.

Make your framerate be beyond 60FPS, so in a worst-case scenario when there's an FPS drop, it doesn't go below 60 at all times.

For CSGO use 4:3, makes headshots so much easier. Other then that extended view distances helps with sniping and such. But having a low sens, game sense, and good aim is more important

Stretching 4:3 only makes things look bigger horizontally, and also severely limits FOV. The reason lots of pros used to do it was to increase FPS, not to make the game "easier." Lots of pros are switching to 16:9 now for the visual fidelity(1080p is popular,) since it's way easier to get a PC that runs CS at a high framerate. Just watch Hiko :)

 

OP: switching to 4:3 stretched will increase your FPS a ton. If that's your goal, have fun.

 

For settings mouse-wise: find out what works for you. My current settings (for as many games as I can replicate it in) is 800dpi, 1.0 game sens on the Source Engine (other games are difficult to get the sens accurate.)

CS runs on potatoes and pros can't use their own PCs. They are all sponsored and have high ends components like 1080s and such

Having vsync off makes mouse movement so much smoother it's ridiculous. Visually it isn't noticeable but I can feel when aiming around. As for other settings, I will turn some things down to get higher FPS as I have a 1440p 144Hz monitor.

In Overwatch, you could probably start basing your settings off the medium preset then base it off of that. No AA if you're genuinely looking for the highest framerate.

Resolution matters. However, can you and do you play at non-native resolution? I personally must use native res for FPSes otherwise it just looks odd and off to me.

 

Keep V-Sync off. Input latency goes down the toilet when enabled, if you're using a keyboard and mouse.

Thanks for the input guys, I am keeping V-Sync off but using 16:9 aspect ratio for Overwatch, also I'm playing at my native resolution of 4K but actually its 1080P upscaled to get the best FPS, maxed out it stays around 100FPS and it seems to be input lag is almost non existent with V-Sync off.

U have NVIDIA GPU. Turn off V-Sync and in NVIDIA Control Panel enable Fast Sync for Overwatch. It is the same as V-Sync except it has waaay lower input lag. Also you need to have more FPS than you need for it to work properly, it uses extra frames to sync with monitor refresh rate to eliminate tearing.

I'm fairly sure a potato can run cs go at 100fps lol I maxed our steams fps counter at 4k

I'm also talking about the CS:GO players that stream, like Hiko. Dumb to use him as an example twice but whatever. There's also players like Summit1g.

 

But I wouldn't get too ahead of yourself talking about 1080s and such- AMD sponsored a few teams, providing them computers, which all had the highest-end APU's and no dGPUs. I am sure wealthier teams have crazy computers, though.
