Half-Life 3 / Movie in the making?

Juanitology

Not really sure this belongs here but I scoured the forums and couldn't find a post about it. Could it be Valve has been waiting to finally give us Half-Life 3 to time it with the release of the movie? Also there are rumors about Bryan Cranston being cast as Gordon Freeman. Is anyone as hyped as I am about this or what do you think? Hypothesis/opinions more than welcome.

I just replayed the entire Half-Life franchise and was reminded about how much I want a third HL game. Sadly, I don't think it's coming. Expectations for a HL3 are absurdly high, so no matter how good a HL3 would be it would still disappoint people due to how anticipated it is. Kind of like No Man's Sky: not an inherently bad game, but so hyped up and anticipated that the expectations it was supposed to live up to were impossible to meet.

Also, I hope they don't make a Half-Life movie. Movies based on video games have been consistently bad, and as a general rule a good concept for a game =/= a good concept for a movie.

That's not necessarily true. The Warcraft movie was decent imo. If the writer/script is good enough, any medium can be adopted to another medium.

I'd argue it's because whoever's directing it doesn't really know what to do with the material or they're just not as good as some of the other directors out there. Plus there are quite a few movies out there that people will agree that it may as well be a movie of the game. For example,  Zombieland could fill in for a Left 4 Dead movie.

If you break down a game's plot to a high concept, pair it up with someone who has a good vision, you could make something decent out of it. The reverse with movies to games happens plenty of times (like Uncharted may as well be an Indiana Jones game)
